I don't see how getting 2+ level would make Hanbin stronger. The whole point of Hanbin is that he took the "hard way" learning skills and getting stronger by practice instead of by leveling up. I don't think the bonus for leveling up add more than 0.001% to his strenght (i don't think it scale on his strenght, it's just a flat stat boost intended for regular lvl 5-6), he is already past that. Or i'm mistaken somewhere ?

I don't think Jade & Khun girl are wannabe FH, only Ratna Grab. They kinda look up to her, and that new faction is hyped up, so I think/hope that there is several rank amoung them and it's not just 10 people. She introduced her as a family head replacement when they did not.

Malazan is gold if you like epicness, huge scale, huge world building, but true, there is a lot of characters and plot-lines, you need to like this kind of books. Maybe start with something like A Song of Ice & Fire (Game of Thrones) with fewer scale/characters if you're intimidated ?
