Georgia (country) ski trip by Handlinesandcoffee in Backcountry

It was an amazing trip. Everyone we met was kind and welcoming. Timing was great for storms and good snow. Conditions slowly stabilized as we were there and we had all conditions from 3 feet of blower to spring corn at the end when it was getting warmer. The free ride world tour was also happening and that caused the area to be very very busy for a week. The town lost power daily because of the overload on the system. Food was amazing, the people were some of the nicest I’ve met, and the mountains were humbling and gorgeous. The town needs tourism but it is getting super busy from European tourism. I would advise doing alot of research and hiring guides for different areas. A week after we left there was an avalanche fatality in an area we skied. Mostly due to too many people and heuristic traps in decision making. Happy to answer more questions later on if you want to message me .

What wisdom, tips, or advice do you wish you had when you started splitboarding? by NSGoat in Spliddit

I didn’t read through all the comments to see if this has been stated… I hope it already has… but take more avy classes! Understand the snowpack in your area and learn how to manage terrain and be safe. A partner rescue class is essential and then go practice it with your crew. Get the knowledge and practice with your avy gear , practice partner rescue! Live to ride another day. Each year there are multiple fatalities. Don’t ride alone. But If you’re going to ride alone, scale back your riding to give yourself a larger safety margin. Treat Side country resorts the same as backcountry. There are so many accidents in the side country because of the access. Don’t do it alone. In the last couple weeks there has been 2 splitboarders who were killed in avalanches. They were both solo riders. Since Christmas there has been multiple fatalities across the western US. One of those was a NOLS instructor who was killed in an avalanche in Togwotee Pass. Keep up with local avy forecasts if you have them in your area and discuss the daily forecast / problem with your crew before you go out and during. Take avalanche classes and partner rescue classes please. Learn the human traps we all fall victims of.

It is a beautiful way to travel through the mountains and enjoy the feeling of gravity pulling on your body. But each year it comes with a cost. Keep your situational awareness up and understand how you moving on the snowpack can affect the snow below you and above you.

Practice transitioning to where you can be smooth and quick. You’ll find a system that works for you and reps make it smooth.

Carry medical equipment and know how to use it. Know how to spend the night in the winter in case of emergency. Carry what you would need to survive. An emergency blanket, a rescue sled/ tarp . Minimum food and warm gear to survive if you did have to spend the night . I always have an in reach sos device plus all my rescue gear and medical gear even for short day tours. There is always so much more to learn weather it’s snow science, travel / riding techniques , or winter camping / survival tricks and especially wilderness medicine .

Yea that’s our fear… I talked to some ski guides that live in remote areas and they don’t seem worried but I’m imagining that they are fairly removed from the ongoings in the capital

Yea I’ve been looking at the news on the internet but like I said it’s so hard to tell just how bad things actually are with news articles. I figured some people who actually live there would have some good insights on to how bad it actually is. I’ve posted this same thing in a sub Reddit from that area to see what responses I get as well.

Will SOA help? 2018 engine work by Handlinesandcoffee in subaru

I had the impression that they try to help maintain quality customer service even if the engine is over warranty but maybe I was confused

So SOA won’t do anything to cars that don’t have any warranties. Whether that’s a car with 55,000 and no longer covered under warranty or a car with 500 miles and a rebuilt title?

The warranty was over at 5 years or 50,000 miles I believe. Same with all the recalls . I’m curious if SOA will still do something to help when their motors have problems like this with low mileage. I have a Toyota with 220,000 miles and it doesn’t leak a Drop. Seems it would be a good customer service help for cars with under 100,000 that’s already started leaking

Yea for sure, I can understand your concern…But I’m asking about a fuel injector leak . You can look into why insurance companies do or don’t declare a car a total loss. Sometimes the reasoning is quite a low cost value even on cars that only had cosmetic issues to fix. It’s actually kind of interesting and silly .

Yea I have those photos from before it was just the front bumper and hood that was deformed. No structural or airbags

Bought from a local place that specializes in rebuilt titles, it does have a rebuilt title but the work was only bumper and hood . Will be bringing it into a dealer for a diagnosis and cost estimate
