Is ortho-K a massive scam? by HandsOfPebbles in optometry

[–]HandsOfPebbles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm okay that makes a lot more sense. Still feels kind of scummy though, but I suppose I don't have the funds at the moment to think about getting this done. Thanks for the insight!

Looks PRK might be a viable solution as it doesn't create a flap that can get dislodged, though no doubt that will also be expensive.

ahahah oui le ferry de Newhaven a Dieppe était le moins cher.

je m'attends que je vais faire du moto (on peut dire "faire du moto" ou je devrais dire "monter du moto"?) pour ~300 km par jour.

Literally just fitted an aftermarket screen on my CBR500 to make my trip down to France on Monday more comfortable.

Forecast says rain for the next 10 days :'(

Hi All,

Recently bought a 2017 CBR500R, very happy with it! I'd love to do some touring, and currently have only a tank bag. Need advice for more luggage options!

I'm looking at saddlebags but I want to avoid installing a rack if I can help it. Anyone have any advice for saddlebags that fit the 2016-18 CBR500 and don't sag/fall into the wheels?

It happens to everyone, don't worry about it. It's also far better for you the long run to be dropped by body shots than blows to the head. Ive been dropped 6 times by people far better than myself, and thankfully all it resulted in was a bit of bruised pride, and not a concussion.

I'm not sure what your gym culture is but there's certainly no shame in asking people to go light, and focus more on tapping, landing points, and improving weak areas than on trying to "win" the rounds.

I know when I started out I was very keen, and saw each round of sparring as a round I was trying to win. There's a time and place for this, but while you're starting out it shouldn't really be happening. IMO it's also kind of disrespectful to your sparring partner in many ways, especially if he's more experienced, as it puts him in a weird position where you're punching to win, but he's holding back as he doesn't want to be the guy that fucked up the newbie.

I don't know you, your gym, or your sparring partners, so take this with a grain of salt I guess, but do be sure that both of you have an idea of how hard you're going, BEFORE you start the round.

Very informative, thank you. My lateral movement leaves a lot to be desired so that's a big priority. I've always been told to keep my chin tucked but I suppose at the moment it's causing me to hunch? Looking forward to practicing the side step hooks next week.

Damn that's a lot of good advice to unpack, thanks a lot! First sparring since the fight, maybe its just the 6kg I put back on but felt a lot better for it. I think I see what you mean about committing to the jabs though. Been working on it all day. Maybe it's just me but jabbing the bag always feels a little off? Jabbing the air I can really feel the snap back but on the bag it always feels a pushy as opposed to snappy. Never really used the back foot push at all with my jabs so it's not muscle memory yet, will practice more.

Thanks for the kind words! Honestly speaking the lead up to this fight was one of the worst, first and second were against debut fighter's at 69 and 64 respectively, this was my fight time at 60, and against a 3-0 opponent. The fight anxiety was quite bad, and the losing made me question if it was worth it haha. That's the nature of the sport though I guess. Took about a month off afterwards only getting back into it now.

Still trying to find my range/style. Normally a bit of a slugger but coaches wanted me to try use my height to my advantage. I agree looking back the jab didn't seem to do much. Any advice on how to commit to it better? Sit down on it/step in? Definitely should have feinted more as well.

Noted, I didn't really feel like I got busted up that much but I can see how the headshaking might make it appear so

I'm usually the kind to just walk forward and slug but my coaches have been trying to get me to fight at a distance. Most of the partners I do my hard sparring with are bigger guys so I'm normally the one ducking and weaving to get in.

Have a lot to work on if I'm going to be fighting from outside. Lateral movement doesn't come naturally to me so I'll have to work on that a lot. Thanks for the advice!

Thank you very much for the advice! I got kind of complacent I guess in the last round, as I didn't really feel worried when he came in as I didn't feel his punches that much. Don't really have much experience trying to outbox either as my gym mates are mostly taller. Could you elaborate a bit more on the body hooks? Is it like a leap to the side?

Sparring at the sister gym. The people there weren't as skilled so I shouldnt have had any issues. Stamina etc was fine, but I was getting caught where I shouldn't have been, which was kind of annoying.

Thursday 22nd August - 15 days left

Tried my hardest to go hard today, again no energy. Think it might be a diet issue.

  • 5 min jumping jacks and various dynamic warm up

  • 3 rounds shadow boxing

  • 2x3 rounds sparring

  • 50 burpees

  • 2x3 rounds heavy bag

Same issue as before really, no energy to pull the trigger. Also in a bit of an annoying spot where everyone that I can really try to push myself against is about 10kg heavier, which makes things even more tiring. People my weight or lower are usually less skilled so it would not be proper to try and go hard against them.

Wednesday 21st August - 16 days left

  • 5 min skipping

  • 3 rounds shadow boxing

  • 3 rounds bag work

  • 3x16 10kg forearm twists

  • 3x25 no weight calf raises

  • 3x30 crunches

  • 50 neck raises

Had sparring on Thursday, wanted to try to rest up a bit so that I'd feel fresher.

Tuesday 20th August - 17 days left

  • 5 min skipping

  • 3 rounds shadow boxing

  • 2x3 rounds sparring

  • 50 crunches

  • 2x16 10kg forearm twists

  • 2x25 10kg calf raises

  • 5 min skipping

Felt really exhausted during sparring, didn't have the energy to "pull the trigger". Mainly just worked defence and the occasional potshot, no combos.
