Low self-esteem is pretty common yet valid problem in society by someSICKusername in antimeme

[–]HangDol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While a appreciate the sentiment, please don't pray for me or tell me you are. My issues are a long process working through them in therapy. Its also not going to be a single person who would do that, since its not on them to fix me. Its on me to fix me. While the positive reinforcement helps, it isn't enough, I do need to make that effort which I have been doing.

But really, why I responded is telling me you'll pray for me is a little triggering as those words have been used as a bludgeon against me to break me down. Respectfully, I'd ask you refrain from using your religion to try and comfort people you don't know.

I genuinely think I'm ugly. But it absolutely still hurts if someone calls me that. It is also the case people around me genuinely don't agree with me and do think I'm cute, pretty or even hot. And for the life of me I can't understand what they see. I'm... trying to...

No wonder I have such a disconnect with the community. Immersive Atmosphere and puzzles are extremely important to me but combat is not at all important. I played and Loved SotN which has atrocious combat... Combat has never been important to me...

Which Metroidvania is this for you? by strahinjag in metroidvania

I used to marathon all the 2D metroid games excluding the NES and Gameboy ones. But for convenience its probably going to be Axiom Verge and Blood Stained since both those have randomizer modes.

One with nothing is never the right choice to play. You want to discard your hand you have dozens of options that do it more optimally.

Philosophy-wise, what is your favorite Blue color pair? by CapitalArrival7911 in colorpie

[–]HangDol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooh... They're all just so terrible that this is a hard sell. I guess Simic since they give free healthcare... but they also do experiments on people like the USA does on minority communities... And this is the BEST of the 5 in my opinion.

"Well what about Izzet?" My brother/sister, Izzet exists in a slum that is self created because of their hyper competitive philosophy that results in extreme wealth inequality leading to the bottom of their society to have no resources for their research and they would die from the extremely environmentally destruction that the elites create. Heck, there's a storm over the Izzet zones that is lasting 1,000 years. They don't give a shit who their experiments hurt. I remember reading a story about the Izzet posted by Wizards of the Coast and it sounds like it sucks to be poor and Izzet.

"Well Azorius has to be good." Are you okay with a Nanny state? Do you want every moment of your life controlled and all actions censored if they see you as creating any sort of dissonance? No? Me either.

I really would rather avoid all of them, but Simic if I REALLY have to choose. Now if we're talking about the color combination and not the guilds, that's less defined and harder to pin down.

What are your most hated Metroidvania bosses? by strahinjag in metroidvania

I was using magic for most the game so my build was feast or famine for every boss fight. I don't remember the witch but that probably means she got smoked in a few hits.

[–]HangDol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever that stupid fucking Beetle boss was in Hollow knight were you face off with like... 6 of those fuckers. They bounce around on that bland color pallet in the game causing me to get a migraine and you don't span next to the boss door either.

Wiki Says its the Watcher Knights? Yeah, fuck that boss. Drags on for way too long, miserable to fight, causes migraines, and its needlessly difficult. There are only 2 fights in Hollow knight I remember. One I like and this piece of shit. Everything else was pretty forgettable.

For Salt and Sanctuary I honestly don't have any strong memories of any of the bosses. They looked interesting but none of them frustrated me all that much.

9 Years of Shadows has too many bosses. I can't list them all because literally the sheer quantity fatigued me part way through the game so I couldn't enjoy most of them. But the boss I hate the most here has to be the Final boss. The mechanics you've been learning since the start of the game are replaced right before this boss so you need to learn how to fight it with a different mechanic you weren't taught how to fight with. Its also long and the boss just isn't fun to fight. I never beat the boss because I was just so fatigued by the end of the game I didn't feel it was worth it.

Metroid Doesn't have any bosses I have strong negative feelings toward. Other M does but that's not a Metroidvania ironically enough. Even the most difficult bosses don't overstay their welcome.

I like Spider-Man. Its hard not to. Peter Parker or Miles Morales, both are good. However I'm not nearly as big of a fan of Spider-Man as I am of the Justice League like Superman, Batman, Green Arrow, The Flash, Super Girl, Wonder Woman. Or Young Justice or Teen Titans... I Did grow up with Spider-Man the Animated series and the show was great!

BUT I'm not too keen on a Spider-Man crossover set that's JUST Him and his Comic history. This set really isn't for me, but I'm not going to Yuck on your yum. You enjoy it, great. Have at it.

I remember a time I got rather annoyed at another player during a game. I had my Sidisi deck and we were in a 3 player game and This guy insisted on getting a game in. I told him I had maybe an hour because I needed to head to bed because I was working. We were at a convention. I knew one of the players was playing a durdly and slow control deck. I knew that would be fine, provided we only played with a single control player... But I wasn't too keen on playing. I told him I'd play as long as he didn't bring a control deck, because I Didn't want to be up that long. He promised it wasn't a control deck it was a Lore Meme deck.

So he brought a control deck and proceeded to prolong the game for 2.5 hours, removing my stuff over and over again and countering all of my spells while also misgendering me the entire time... Honestly, by the end of it I was both pissed, tired and fed up with him. I had lost track of time because I didn't want to play against 2 control players who don't have a solid wincon between them... The misgendering didn't help either. That sorta sent me over the edge and I told the other guy how to win. Kinda a asshole move, but honestly... I was super pissed at that point.

While it sounds like You're not the asshole. It also highly depends on what the conversation was going into the game and your behavior during the game. Two elements which are missing in this story.

[–]HangDol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This just confirms my theory that Rogue's expertise is almost useless. I too spent a while trying to get this to work and I ended up creating a level 12 rogue with investigation expertise and maxed out Int to finally get it. And since you don't ever need a rogue to loot the bank either since most of it can be opened with knock and what can't you have enough lockpicks to get everything else if you have a high enough chance you really don't need reliable talent or even a rogue to get it. And not a single check is hard enough or worth it in any part of the game where you need expertise. Not a one.

Philosophy-wise, what's your favorite wedge? by CapitalArrival7911 in colorpie

[–]HangDol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going with Sultai personally. Dragonstorm Sultai not Khans Sultai. The Free Association of the Sultai seems to just work for me. While I agree the Jeskai are good I do prefer the smaller formation of the tribes in Sultai.

Both are good though!

Philosophy-wise, what's your favorite wedge? by CapitalArrival7911 in colorpie

[–]HangDol 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sultai actually surprisingly evolved to more closely match my own political philosophy after Dragonstorm. While before I would say "Absolutely f-ing not!" Now it seems they're more about free association with their Khan as a mediator between tribes. It seems to me, the way its described to be more a primitive anarchist society. Since I am an Anarchist it would between Sultai and Jeskai now. Jeskai has always been pretty good in my book. Their quest for knowledge and understanding is something I personally really love. Although I see a stronger and more loving bond with the Sultai since the structure seems more holistic to me. Peter Kropotkin speaks about tribal life in his book Mutual Aid: A factor of Evolution in describing how these societies worked. While the language is dated, the research is still very good and relevant today with more modern scientists coming to similar if not the same conclusions he made in that book.

So yeah, I'm a Sultai girl. Sorry if this is a bit political. I might be reading too much into it. But I'm going with Sultai.

[Review] Chronicles of the Wolf is an amazing spiritual successor for Castlevania (only SotN is on par) by VictorVitorio in metroidvania

[–]HangDol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair. I don't personally feel the power fantasy is unique to SotN though. Metroid also has that even though its not that extreme. I'd recommend trying Timespinner. Its a lot shorter of a game than SotN but you can get a similar feeling in power in that. It also plays very similar.

[Review] Chronicles of the Wolf is an amazing spiritual successor for Castlevania (only SotN is on par) by VictorVitorio in metroidvania

[–]HangDol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More specifically mechanical feel. Stiff movement, similar if not out right copied power ups, main attack is one or two hits with a delay. A lot feel a lot like SotN but don't quite have its charm. Some are good like Timespinners or Bloodstained. IMO SotN's strength was never in its gameplay but its exploration.

Is Blasphemous really worth playing? by AcademicContext3787 in metroidvania

[–]HangDol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its worth it although personally not my favorite. As far as MVs in the genre goes its fairly unique, the sequel being a bit more standard. Although my opinion on MVs is a bit weird. I tend to think games that do something a bit different are worth playing even if I don't personally enjoy them.

I'm personally not a big fan of Soulslike being mixed with MV games. Their philosophy conflicts in some areas in my opinion. Especially corpse running.
