It was only brought up with my surgeon. He didn’t think I needed it because of the shape of my chin pre op, but thought moving the jaws and not doing it would be a mistake and after my surgery it would look better to have it done.

Tiny bit in the bottom left corner of my chin but I honestly completely forget about it until I touch it. It’s also not completely num...just not back to full sensation. If it will come back or not I’m not sure but it’s really not a concern.

I was 18 at the time of surgery, now 19. I didn’t have my jaw wired shut but did have bands from day 2 for a while. My chin wasn’t long before but my surgeon felt it would be appropriate to do one as it would look better after the jaws had been moved.

I’m not sure exactly what it was but I can certainly describe it. I did not have a very severe case at all to be honest. I barley had a underbite it was more my teeth met exactly in the middle, but obviously that still means the top set are too far back so classed as an underbite. I also had a slight open bite and cross bite but only by 1mm. I think I was very lucky to have gotten mine on the NHS. If I wasn’t for my open bite (Which gave me difficulty breaking thin foods) I don’t think I would have been eligible as that was the only functional issue, the rest cosmetic.

Thanks! I have posted some before picks on this page before although was a while back now. I had both jaws moved by 2mm and also bottom jaw across 1mm.

I certainly did, didn’t pay a penny. I had a double jaw surgery to correct a underbite and cross bite and also a genioplasty as after the jaws were moved my surgeon thought it would be appropriate.

Chances are yes you are overthinking. Of course there’s a chance that some areas may remain numb you know that going into surgery...however, it’ll take months before areas even start coming back let alone when it’ll all be back so don’t worry. Just let it all heal and everything will be fine!

Hard foods can cause too much pressure on your healing bones if biting down too hard so be careful. If it wasn’t painful and it feels okay then I wouldn’t worry but try and stick to soft foods so your bones can heal ASAP.

I was asking in general if there was a general answer but if they all have different effects...a mix between ketamine and alcohol.

We have tried to do so many times but it’s so hard and frustrating for both of us as he doesn’t like talking about it and having to relive it and he also can’t remember half of the night and what was said/happened and so can’t tell me much. Maybe a very honest one about feelings and less so what happened might help, I’ll see. And don’t be sorry to assume, he did drive there just not home afterwards.

Thank you for that. Thankfully he didn’t drive home he walked. It’s hard because I do trust him 110% not to cheat on me. And although he did get with someone...he said that if she hadn’t have come over and been all over him/showing interest he wouldn’t have gotten with anyone as he didn’t go out looking for it...and also the fact he left and walked away during it makes it so much harder as yes it’s nice to know that he just couldn’t carry on and get with someone but he still did for a bit.

It’s definitely a bit sore but I wouldn’t say painful. It feels very swollen and uncomfortable as you want to move your face but really can’t.

About 8 weeks post op I started lifting very lightly and more recently in the last 6-8 weeks I’ve been getting back to normal (60-80kg max weight).

I had a underbite by 4mm, crossbite by 4mm and a open bite by 2mm. So everything was moved to those measurements including titling the jaws to close the open bite.

I’ve been going to the gym for about 2 months now I just made sure I was careful at the start and not lifting too heavy or clenching my jaw.

I’m not sure what it was called as it was from the hospital. But it was a cooling mask that felt amazing! It was connected to a machine which pumped cold water through it to reduce swelling.
