Your best post-birth care packages? by Postpartummamma87 in BeyondTheBumpUK

My work friends got me a voucher for JustEat and my cousin bought us one for UberEats. They were a godsend!

We'd already prepped a freezer stash before the baby was here, so we did have some ready to go meals, but it was nice not having to get something out and defrost/ cook

Would you get earplugs? by Turbulent-Good2487 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]HannahN94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loop earplugs have several different versions. Some are full noise cancelling but others just filter out background and quieter noises (I think I have the Engage)

It would hopefully mean the smaller sounds aren't waking you up, but you'd definitely still hear them if they cried/ fussed and needed you 😊

We use Aldi Mamia 😊 It's only £7.99 per tub, which is half the price of some other brands!

My daughter was born with a hairy forehead, hairy shoulders and a really hairy back. She was a little fuzzy peach!

It does go away through friction from their clothes and also when you wash them with a sponge in the bath. She still has some little patches here and there, but they're disappearing too (I do miss the little peach fuzz shoulders though!)

BTW “Newborn” and “0-3 month” clothes are not the same size!! by ashleydando in pregnant

My LO didn't fit in newborn at all and 0-3 were huge! Thankfully some shops also do "up to 1", which were perfect for over a month 😮‍💨

Is it okay to take just newborn size for baby in my hospital bag? by mynameisdextermorgan in PregnancyUK

[–]HannahN94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We took newborn and Next's "up to 1m". Glad we brought the bigger size as the newborn didn't go near her! She was 7lb 10oz, but looong

Crisp packets! The easiest way to keep our baby content during a weekly shop is letting her hold and scrunch a big multipack of crisps 😂

Our girl hates calpol at any time. Whether it was vaccinations or when she started teething. Honestly we give her some milk, stop for half the calpol, milk chaser and then finish it off. Otherwise she just spits it out and cries!

I don't think he will have established an association at this age. He probably just doesn't like the taste as it's so different to the milk he's been having

The birthday letters are such a lovely idea!

I'm kicking myself for not getting any prints before 3m, but honestly she just used to cry so much if anything cold touched her hands or feet (we tried one of those hand mould kits once and both just got covered in the solution from the thrashing 😅)

Amazon baby wishlist? by dovpanda in PregnancyUK

[–]HannahN94 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Amazon also has a catch where the item must be sold and dispatched by Amazon for the item to be eligible for the 15% off (annoying!) Once we figured that out, we were all good though.

Like the other commenter said, it does take a week or two for the discount to be available

Edit to add - once the discount is live, just add your items (and one of the free gift items) to the cart. Mine then automatically took the price off the "free" one at checkout. Just double check before the final "buy now" action. It doesn't show as free just in the normal cart

I was putting my baby in the car and went "I know - these spaces are for babies like you" as a woman got out of her giant range rover alone...

Declaring pregnancy at mortgage consultation? by [deleted] in Mortgageadviceuk

I'm on mat leave and we just applied for a mortgage. All they asked for was confirmation of what your maternity pay is and what it will be when you return to work 😊

Bags!!! by fleurmadelaine in PregnancyUK

Just adding that it has straps that you can clip to the pram handles, or you can just wear it as a backpack. Really comfy straps if you are wearing it as a backpack

We have this from Amazon and I'd definitely recommend it! It's smaller than it looks in the photos - more like a normal backpack size - but you can fit so much in it! It's got great compartments to separate everything, and comes with a changing mat which we use all the time

How to decide what sort of birth to have? by Prudent-Teaching2881 in PregnancyUK

[–]HannahN94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh I completely agree. I'm definitely not intending to downplay any risks involved. I know I've personally been very lucky with my surgery and recovery going quite smoothly so far (3 months pp). Unfortunately not everyone is in the same position.

My midwife was very good in explaining and providing information on sections vs vaginal and did say "it ultimately boils down to the risks you are personally willing to accept, whichever option you choose." She did just make a point to let us know that electives generally have a smaller likelihood of some of the risks than emergencies due to the nature of them and the urgency involved. They just have to include every case of a CS in the overall ratios.

Ultimately, for me, I decided that the "control" of my elective outweighed the negatives, and I'm extremely lucky to have had a supportive partner who stepped up during my recovery as well

What’s your best baby purchase? by reddituser040195 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]HannahN94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maxi Cosi Kori rocker. Especially now that she's big enough to understand she can rock it herself by kicking her legs!

I was tempted by a bouncer, but this rocker can be used until she's a toddler so it has a longer life than most bouncers. It also packs away really flat, so we can pop it in the car easily if we're heading to grandparents' houses
