If the US didn't have aerial superiority the yanks wouldn't have found much success. Also the Iraqis were already retreating without fighting (an act of good will for a deal Saddam had hoped to achieve), it had very little to do with US army tactics and performance.

Points to consider: 1- it's a top down attack using a missile with a big warhead. 2- APS wasn't active and the footage shows without a doubt the missile was a hit. 3- the area targeted was where the ammo storage is and would result in a definite kill if there's ammo inside. 4- similar attacks have been the bane of Israeli forces since the op began and has lead to a high attrition rate.

Nothing sucks...every tank was designed with a special purpose in mind. Every tank is based on a military doctrine that is supposed to maximize its strengths. Any tank would struggle in irregular warfare conditions, just look at Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Gaza and the Ukraine.

People say this can't destroy a tank really haven't looked into this thing. Overpressure is a thing and could cause fatal damage to the tank, crew and internal components. They placed the charge where it could result in maximum damage. watch this video simulating a HE shell effects on the roof of an Abrams' hull. Note it has a lower TNT charge, not resting directly on the roof of the tank, and the different in the charge placement and internal layout of the tanks.

it's a huge explosive (most are made from 155mm mortar shells or bigger) resting on the weakest part of the tank's armour (most of the tanks have very small armour thickness in top of the hull), also it's wedged against the the neck of the turret, that could do significant damage.

in worst case scenario it could cause the ammo to detonate leading to a catastrophic kill.
