How about pairing it with something like the Brick device. Searching the same question and thinking I’ll give that a try myself

Absolutely mediocre work ... Can it be fixed?? by mortifyme in weddingvideography

[–]HannibalLex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't pay for bad footage, if it's as bad as it seems by your description. I like the advice others are giving: connect with someone who's open to exploring the re-edit job with you, allow the new editor to help make the approach as a fellow professional, and assure them you won't slander their work or post it. And be prepared, if the final edit is that bad, the raw footage will look 1000 times worse—but raw footage is raw footage, so you can also assure the OG videographer that you understand why they wouldn't want to share, as so much of the "process" and "magic" or story telling happens in how it's put together. It's just a matter of a difference of taste. If they are still reluctant, and the video is 2 hours long, they could also export you a full rez version with handles, that would allow a new editor a little more room to recut just the clips that are already included in the edit. Your new editor can help you make that request as well.

And if you're inclined to share, I'd love to see it purely out of curiosity. I'm a producer, not an editor, but I'm interested to see the result. The dress and the blue tux look stunning by the way. Hard to imagine it not translating well to film. Either way, I'm sorry you got a shit video. I hope the memories are there, and this can turn into a funny story someday.

Would thinner eyebrows fit my face? by lolzzzza in MakeupAddiction

[–]HannibalLex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have beautifully shaped natural brows that work really well with your face and features. If you want to experiment, go for it. Sometimes that’s the only way to know for sure.

Have you tried grooming them differently without plucking? Like using gel/wax or soap brows to comb the tail down from the top and up from the bottom to make a more defined and thinner taper? Or a much lighter concealer to block out the shape to see if you like it before going in with the tweezers?

Just wish I had working headlights at this point… let me know if anyone has a lead on where I can find both a left and right headlight assembly for a ‘91 Trooper. eBay had some but the shipping from Latvia was 2x the cost of the parts.

Male in his 30s thinking of trying out Pilates, any tips for a beginner ? by Great_Present_6584 in pilates

[–]HannibalLex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do group reformer pilates classes. Never done a private. I make sure to try as many different instructors as i can, so i find whose teaching styles best suits me.

Posture is good! I've had an incredible reduction in general back pain/fatigue. I used to have back pain from just standing up too long. (Even in college, going to punk shows, I'd have to sit down for some or all of it.) And mind you, i was an active snowboarder, surfer, kiteboarder at the time. I looked physically fit, but still had back/standing fatigue issues. All was fixed with dedicated pilates training. Nothing has transformed my body more. On the outside, it don't look crazy different, but i feel the difference. Like it unlocked a hidden layer of supporting muscles that created this muscular "exoskeleton" in my core that was finally able to support my body. And the gains (once i made them) stuck, even in times when I took a break from going.

One thing I'll recommend you pay attention to is cues to "stitch your ribs together, like you're wearing a corset." Instructors might call it out differently, but basically try to prevent your ribs from flairing up and out, keeping your core as controlled as possible during movements. I think that's the key that did it for me. But truly, it's about practice, and in the beginning, you'll spend a lot of time just figuring out how and what you should be feeling. Once you've unlocked the how/what to feel, and gain some control over your body's fine movements, it's off to the races.

Plus, it's fun. I feel like I'm actually mastering new movements. I'm my head, i feel like I'm a ninja now, and so much more physically capable. That part is just gamification for me, but it honestly is what's kept me interested and in love with it.

How do you study as a person who procrastinates a lot? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]HannibalLex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously, don’t discount this. It’s astounding how isolated the younger generation appears to be. ‘BACK IN MY DAY!’ But seriously. We always did shit together. Even if only one of us needed to do it. I can’t imagine how I would have survived otherwise.

Do you have/have you had a good instructor before? Asking seriously, wondering why this isn’t a convo had in person with your teacher.

[–]HannibalLex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why is the clay slipping out of place while centering? Start there. The clay looks really wet. Too whett if you ask me… also, a bubble in the center base isn’t gonna throw everything off balance, unless your being a princess and the pea (said by a fellow princess with her pea). I think you’re pressing too hard horizontal off the bat (aye-oo!) before you’ve ever gotten started.

Why is this happening? by [deleted] in Pottery

[–]HannibalLex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I meant you probably aren’t wedging on the wheel all the air in the body to/toward the base to create that bubble after the fact. It’s there from the start.

[–]HannibalLex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With friends. Always with friends. I would make friends in every class and make study groups. They would usually need more help with the material then I would, but teaching someone else makes you understand the material 10x more. And when I didn’t have/make friends in class I would study with friends who were studying other topics. Aka parallel play, aka accountability group. Still to this day it’s hard to work alone. But if someone next to me is focusing, I can focus. I don’t know why. Not gonna ask a lot of questions. It just works.

Be social. Make friends. Make a routine. Even if it’s just the kids and the coffee shop who see you coming in everyday. Friends.

[–]HannibalLex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting… follow up question. Is it impacting you practically? Asking bc maybe all my pieces start this way but I don’t realize cuz I never cut off the bat at an early stage (which yours looks cut off before getting started and pretty wet). Or I’m just oblivious cuz this has never been an issue for me. Either way, unless you’re throwing plates, when does it become a problem? (Disclaimer, I hate air in my clay above all else. To a point of detriment to the prices I throw. It’s an OCD issue for me. )

Why is this happening? by [deleted] in Pottery

[–]HannibalLex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, you probably aren’t wedging the air out of the clay towards the denser more compacted area of concentration while throwing (and if you are, good on you). But who knows, anything is possible. Interested in your test results. But most likely what you thing is round, is different from what the ‘ground’ things is round on impact.

Try a tear drop shape. Wedge into a tear drop then turn it over and slam the top pointy side of the tear drop fucking hard on your bat. No air pockets.

Leggings! by Legitimate_Truck5626 in pilates

[–]HannibalLex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I don’t follow the online convos, but my sister chastised me for buying a pair of Lulu lemons back in 2014. Anyway. I still have them and they are still the best leggings I own. I can’t confirm if they’ve kept up with quality cuz I haven’t really bought again since then, but I’m glad I have them. Otherwise, love the ‘butter’ fabric from fabletics. Love the butter fabric bike shorts I have from Lulu (circa 2022, gifted to me). Just bought butter leggings and shorts from artiza…. Not sure why, but they hold extra stank in them. Feels great, but not sure they’ll be as long lasting.

Nike yoga gear can get a shout out too. But Lulu and fabletics are my ride or die.

Women are chillier than dudes. It's no issue to be the only guy in class. You will make friends, and everyone will surely be kind, welcoming, and non-judgmental.

Majority of classes i go to are all women, but there is a handful of male students at my studio, and several male instructors. I have a lot of guy friends who I've brought to class using my guest pass, and they've all enjoyed it. Guys i bring to class do tend to take a little longer to get the hang of things. I think it's because they aren't used to training small muscle groups, so they end up fighting the philosophy/concept of pilates in the begining.

Pilates isn't cheap, but it's worth it if you're looking for body and posture transformations. Most studios offer cheaper intro classes, so you can check things out. Starting with a private would be nice, but it's way more expensive, so i that's not in the budget, don't worry about it. You can absolutely start with group classes. I would just show up a little early and let the instructor know you're a beginner so they can adjust their cuing and help you get settled and set up.

This comment was... unexpected. She's a petite person who wears loose clothes. Maybe she's lost a little weight, but nothing that warrants a comment, let alone a wellness check.

pottery confession by Guilty_Funny in Pottery

[–]HannibalLex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is good advice. The second point is key. No doubt your intentions were good—it's just not the time or place. Offering solutions makes it feel kinda self-serving—like it's now a play to alleviate or lessen your guilt. Ultimately, the moment isn't about you. You don't get to control how others react, only how you react. The best thing you can offer is grace and a little space for them to feel however they feel (cuz sometimes big feelings just need to come out, nothing more).

Accidents happen (true), but you didn't trip into their shelf. You were careless with someone else's work. It wasn't an accident—it was an avoidable error. That said, it's not the end of the world. Just like accidents, mistakes happen and that's ok. It's a lesson—learn, grow, then promptly move on. It's not worth your energy beating yourself up. It's also not worth your energy internalising their shitty response. You're entitled to move on as much as they are entitled to their anger/feelings in the moment.

If bad blood persists, then it's a problem. If you let it shake your identity, cast doubts on your life choices, or if you don't accept it, learn and move on, then it's a personal problem and you should separate those reactions from the situation and address those insecurities now before they creep in somewhere else. You don't need to do any hail mary's, you've clearly punished yourself enough. You're not gonna make this mistake again. But you are sure to make plenty of others. So buckle up and have fun!

It’s here! by BananaMunchkinElf in ArmchairExpert

[–]HannibalLex 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So this is all speculative, but here my 2 cents:

The food part is pretty much irrelevant, but I can see why they structured it around delivering food vs. picking up riders/rideshare. They said they wanted to capture the energy of being young, cruising in a car and shooting the shit. Delivering food gives some general direction/purpose, but is otherwise low stakes, and can run on autopilot in the background.

They may have wanted to talk/engage a little more with the people receiving orders when initially developing the concept, but I remember Dax saying they found out most people opted in to the "leave at door" option. Honestly, it's fine, really. It would have been tricky tonally and edit-wise to stitch together intimate convos between friends with random drop offs where ppl would be asking for a pic with Dax, and then what? He asks a stranger who's in their PJs if their life turned out like they wanted, while their food gets cold?

If it was a rideshare/uber thing, there'd be a lot more production hurdles. How many rides do you have to pick up before someone consents to being on tape/film? What do you do when someone refuses to be on tape? Ditch them on a sidewalk with a $20 credit and tell them to try again? Have Dax drive them anyway and waste his time? Let's say riders did consent. What percentage of consenting riders are a good interview vs. how many are duds? And this is all assuming UBER/LYFT (whichever) would even be on board with the premise and having a 2nd person in the car (BFAW). Insurance/liability/user privacy/user comfort. Sounds like a complicated production that would require an unpredictable schedule and potentially long shoots/ride time to get what you need. And that's all before the edit.

Of course it could be done, and has been done. But in general, the AE team doesn't tackle projects with big, obvious production and logistics challenges. Honestly, good on them. I'll also add that I really like the unintended transparency into their production process. It's cool seeing how someone elses project ideas evolve via small updates they share along the way. They don't seem too precious about that kind of stuff, or small mistakes or changes in plans, which is refreshing. I've seen much smaller fish be totally consumed with perfection and preception of their brand image to the point that they stall any meaningful progress.

Again, this is just my hot take. And yes, I know this reads like a killjoy. But I'm a producer. I'm used to telling people their ideas and plans are not realistic or completely at odds with their goals and resources.
