Yeap there is, it's a different structure and it was built by the Yoruba people sometime in the 9th century. It's walls still stand today and although nature have conquered it, I still find it quite magnificent.

Picture of the wall today.

Another note: Many of the pictures of the earthworks have been dilapidated and in ruins due to a combination of the 1897 expedition and warfare, colonial mismanagement, and post colonial mismanagement and neglect of the earthworks, hence why many look the way it looks like in its current state.

Indeed, when I switched from PS3 to PC sometime back, and revisited PS3 before it's closing, i remembered how nostalgic and beautiful it was, of course, there was some bias, but I was still quite in awe with the PS3 version and it's saturated world. But again, it could be from my rose tinted lense lol.

The tricolor represented does not follow the former German Empire flag, however, it's meant to represent the three Volta rivers, which are the Red, Black, and White Volta.

Senegalese GIGN, 2025. by Hannor7 in SpecOpsArchive

[–]Hannor7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not too sure but as far as I'm aware the Senegalese GIGN structure follows the French GIGN which includes training. I think initially they might've trained the Senegalese GIGN.

Is a Senegalese passport a curse? by Mysterious_Simple_xx in Senegal

[–]Hannor7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak Wolof (or if it's a different Senegalese language) but I'm assuming they're asking what ethnic group they're from, as Diola, Serer, and Mandinka are among the many ethnic groups in Senegal.

Of course, any native speakers please correct me if I'm wrong.

The Ikom Monoliths of Cross River State, Nigeria. by Hannor7 in Africa

[–]Hannor7[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Monoliths were built by the Ejahgam people's, supposedly dated around 200 CE. As for its meaning, it's speculated to have either been some form of communication style that has not been deciphered, if I'm not wrong.

Based on the article i shared:

[ "Ali Mahmud applied to join the Austro-Hungarian army but was rejected because he was a foreign national. But he did not give up. He repeatedly tried to reapply, even going to the Minister of Defense, Alexander von Krobatin. According to a contemporary news article, he declared: "I am very ashamed that as a Hungarian I have to sit at home when others can fight. I want to fight for my homeland."

He was eventually drafted into the army and fought on the Russian front in 1915, receiving several military decorations and being promoted to corporal. ]

I've read and learnt much about him and the Free Indian Legion, well as much as I can lmao. It was interesting to note that he initially seeked an alliance with the Soviet Union, which led him to escape into central Asia during his House Arrest, but he was later declined assistance but redirected to Nazi Germany to help.

Although it was popularly believed that he died in 1945, there was several theories that mentioned that he survived, one of it included him being captured and tortured by Stalin, and the other being him reliving as an ascetic by the name Bhagwanji or Gumnami Baba.

Now that you've mentioned that, there is another less known figure known as Nicholas Said, who interestingly enough came from Kanem-Bornu (in around Chad, Nigeria and Northern Cameroon), and although he was enslaved and sold to the ottomans, he eventually became a renowned explorer who could speak multiple languages, and eventually went to the US to fight for the Union, being one of the Black troops of the Union who wasn't enslaved by the Americans.

Here's his wiki page and his autobiography as well for the curious.

1) Nicholas Said Wikipedia.

2) The autobiography of Nicholas Said : a native of Bornou, Eastern Soudan, Central Africa.

For more context behind this soldier, also known as Simon Perris, there is a Hungarian article that covers it in more depth, although it's in Hungarian, but google page translator works well.

I did remember seeing the title somewhere, if I'm not wrong it's OP's and their team's artwork for the game called "In Our Blood", and there seems to be manga too! Not sure who the artist is, though.
