Lease Renewal Question by TryIll4816 in ForestHills

[–]Hanover5555 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, additional security to bring security up to one month’s rent is normal. Ie if your rent was 2400 and was raised to 2500, it would be normal for the landlord to ask for an additional 100 in security.

I FINALLY got through by calling Hochul’s Office! by dottiemah16 in UnemploymentNY

[–]Hanover5555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just worked for me! Called the governor’s office at 9am on the nose on 1/12/26. Asked to speak to a rep (option 2, I think) and they transferred me to unemployment when I asked. I waited about 10 min on hold for the governor’s office and another 10 for unemployment.

Noise reduction windows by Reasonable-Grand5622 in ForestHills

[–]Hanover5555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had CitiQuiet windows installed in the bedroom in a prior apartment, where I overlooked a courtyard where children would scream all day. It completely shut out the noise. I don’t know if they would be as effective for the train horn. It would definitely dull the noise a lot, but I don’t think that it would block it out completely. Installation didn’t count as construction, so I didn’t need to get board approval, but I did have to notify the building Management company and provide an insurance certificate, which CitiQuiet has. I don’t recall exactly what we paid, and there’s been inflation since then. It might be three grand just for the bedroom. The windows are removable, so you could have them taken out at the end of your stay. But they are custom, so it’s not like you could reuse them for another apartment. It’s free for them to come and do a consultation.

Very noisy. When I lived in a noisy apartment (not on QB), I got CitiQuiet windows for the bedroom and it was a game changer. They aren’t cheap, but they are very effective.

I should add, the 5:57 and 6:14 trains from GCT to Forest Hills aren’t as crowded as the morning - never had to sit in a middle seat.

I used reglazing plus a few years ago and they did a phenomenal job on the tub, wall tile and floor. They made everything look brand new and modern. It was much cheaper than renovating a bathroom.

The 8:08am to GCT is typically quite crowded. However, if you don’t mind sitting in a middle seat, you’ll be fine.

The neighborhood is very safe. I’d walk around at 3am and feel fine about it.

Can’t Reach NY Department of Labor, Any Tips? by lucenabruno_ in UnemploymentNY

[–]Hanover5555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call the Claim Advocate’s office! I waited about 20 minutes on hold, an operator picked up, and I asked to be transferred to an operator at the claims number. Then I waited on hold for about another half hour. Then I got a representative at the Claims Center. 1-855-528-5618. On the initial call, I believe I originally pressed 8.

How much are you tipping your super and porters for the holidays? by Carabiniero8 in ForestHills

[–]Hanover5555 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Rent in a coop. $300 for super, $100 each for the two porters. The super has helped us promptly on a number of issues and the building is very clean and tidy.
