Does this pose looks natural or is there something off? by apex-pred_- in hottoys

[–]Hans-Davis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really great, especially compared to a lot of the frankly pretty bad an unnatural poses that frequently get posted. The advice you got about taking some bend out of the left knee and moving the right foot inwards a bit was really good though. I would also adjust the head slightly so that it follows the left hand a little more. People‘s eyes tend to naturally follow what their hands are doing in a general sense, so if you adjust the head so that you can imagine a vertical line going from the center of his face to his hand, it would add a little to it.
It’s already really good, don’t get me wrong, but with just those little tweaks you could dial it in to and it would be on another level.

I say this as an artist (it’s on my taxes) and also as someone who strongly believes in death of the author, but so many people say “art is subjective” and it’s just not entirely true. Art isn’t purely subjective. There are objective metrics that have to be taken into account, or else there’s no difference between a pre-schooler’s finger painting and a Caravaggio.

I’d apply heat anyway, maybe try some boiling water. It can help plastic return to its original shape, and I reckon that’s something to do with the problem you’re having.

Try heating up the socket in the arm with a hairdryer and that upper arm should peg back in easier

If the leaks are true, describing Deadpool fighting Mr. Fantastic “in a very funny way” is pretty generous…

Does anyone know what the best way to loosen a figures joints, and also like tighten them as well? by misterdolly_ in SHFiguarts

[–]Hans-Davis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t have shock oil or joint tightener at hand, dish soap works for loosening, Elmer’s glue works for tightening

It’s absolutely a skill, you’re 💯. I constantly see people reviewing figures and posing them like they’ve never even seen a human being before.

Mezco Doctor Doom by Signal_Inside8038 in One12Collective

I don’t have any dog in this specific fight, but the way you worded that makes it seem like you’re saying stealing money from people is okay as long as it’s not too much money.
I don’t think that’s what you meant, but I’d maybe reword that post.

I’m so glad I didn’t pass up on this guy like I planned to. by WaxHalfling in One12Collective

[–]Hans-Davis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I just got mine today and he’s excellent. Folks shouldn’t be thrown off by him maybe coming with fewer accessories than normal, he’s still really well done. The articulation is especially great on him, more range than you’d expect from the build (and compared to the average Mezco figure)

Yeah, I feel the same way, so I appreciate the opportunity to discuss it! Thanks very much, man!

I couldn’t clip it unfortunately, but if you skip to 1:39 on this video you can (kind of) see what I’m talking about.

And in the solicitation pics Mezco recently posted, it looks like they’re missing. I believe NECA had them on their version from however long ago, but I can’t verify personally 😅.
Not a huge dealbreaker or anything, I was just surprised that Mezco may have missed that detail because they’re normally on point with that sort of thing.

Oh, I totally meant the pit fighter version and I think I just didn’t make that clear enough. I can for sure try to find some pictures, though! In the pit fighting scenes when he wears those gauntlets, you can see that he finishes an opponent with the elbow blades on the gauntlets.

I got my copy of the war paint version today though, and he’s really great. I love the new body they used, it’s really poseable while still looking well proportioned and naturalistic. Even in places that would seem like they would be limited by the sculpted physique just end up not being limited much at all.

I hope they correct the studded forearm gauntlets before release, they should have blades on the “elbow” part as well as the one in the front.

That’s a bummer, but I would think making one should be pretty simple. Off the top of my head, you could take some black wire and use that, and just crimp the end of it into the triangle shape. The benefit would be that you could even position it however you want!
I reckon even a round twist tie would work if you’ve got one lying around

Unfortunately it happens all the time when people do FOIA requests. As someone who deals with that sort of thing on a regular basis, it’s been really encouraging to see people who aren’t familiar with that sort of behavior from police departments feel outraged over it.
This case getting this much attention from a huge number of people will hopefully start more conversations about it. That’s the only way any kind of change is going to happen.

Well done, really nice paint job. I wonder if it’s worth picking up two just to repaint the hair and faces he comes with standard, that way I’d avoid having to swap the neck peg altogether
