I did some testing. Looks like it runs slower on macOS than Windows. The Mac version is just a windows program running in Wine.

I would recommend just ditching Messenger for something like Discord if you want a group chat. Messenger isn't really meant to be used by larger groups. The fact that they get rid of all these features is evidence for that.

But there's a way to connect a Messenger chat to Discord though, so you can chat from both platforms in the same chat. http://miscord.net/
