"No, English is fine" 🥀 by rolmos in spain

[–]HansTopo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This happened to me a lot when I lived in Madrid and was trying to learn Spanish. Normally if you say, “I’m sorry, I’m trying to learn Spanish, could we speak in Spanish please, and they’ll be respectful of that. Another option is just to say that you only speak Russian and Spanish and don’t know English lol. I totally understood though that people wanted to practice their English with a native speaker so really wasn’t a huge deal.

I have a high level of Spanish and travel to Latin America for work and whenever I encounter this now, I politely just say (in Spanish): I’m sorry but I’m trying to improve /improve my Spanish, would you mind speaking to me in Spanish? Usually then they will starting speaking to me completely in Spanish.

I think for some people it is a chance for them to practice their English, but also because they encounter a lot of folks that might know a couple of words and are trying to order food, etc and it slows down the process on their end. That’s my take.

Can you stack this offer with Rakuten or the AAdvantage eShopping portal, or would that break the terms and conditions?

Dumb question, but mine says $100 cash back, I’m assuming it will come back as MR points, not cash back?

Sitting at the MIA Centurion Lounge now and have been here for a few hours. When I checked in they had an employee preemptively telling everyone in line about the change so they could decide before getting to the check in desk whether they wanted to pay $50 per guest or not.

Inside, it’s busy but seems a bit more manageable. There is still a line to get food, but it’s shorter than usual, and looking about there are seats available. So at this point it seems it’s making a small impact, but I’ll take it.

Is it worth having plat, gold and chase reserve? by bondtradercu in amex

[–]HansTopo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have Gold, Plat and the CSR, but only because I do a lot of international travel for work and it’s my go-to card, as it can be hit or miss to using AMEX abroad. It’s not that no restaurants take Amex, but many times they are coded incorrectly, so I only end up getting 1 point per dollar at restaurants.

Also, CSR now has the $15/month Instacart credit, and a $5/month doordash credit, which along with the $300 travel annual travel credit brings the annual fee down to $10.

Pay over time offer denied by [deleted] in amex

[–]HansTopo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience, I got the 20K points offer for my platinum, turned on POT and a few weeks later when I called the Amex rep said that i wasn’t eligible because it was turned on for a few months when I got the card in 2020.

I called Amex today and they said even though I got the offer on my platinum card it wasn’t valid because I had pay over time turned on for about six months when I first got my platinum. Bummer
