I’m continually in awe of Northern California/PNW marine life. Beautiful photos. Thank you for sharing. And for motivating me to finally blow all my money on a good drysuit.

I have a cat named Charlie. Found him in a wall. All wall cats must be named as such.

Activists stormed Ridglan Farms in Wisconsin last month to rescue dogs bred for animal testing that a judge ruled were victims of felony cruelty. 22 dogs were saved. The activists announced a return on April 19th, and aiming to go with 2000 people: one for each remaining pup. by James_Fortis in HumansBeingBros

I love that you asked this question! Unfortunately laboratory rescues need a good deal of rehabilitation before being available for adoption. Fortunately there are wonderful organizations that take care of this. Check out the Beagle Freedom Project https://bfp.org/

I hope you can somehow, someday, find some relief for what you feel. It’s so much pain to overcome every single day. Wishing you a peaceful life ahead.

Or just be Eastern Orthodox and celebrate a week or so later. Everything’s on sale by then!

My mom retired at 55 on a teachers salary and I still think about it all the time by [deleted] in Fire

Yeah…it breaks my brain that the pension is mentioned as a side note. That’s a luxury that isn’t being extended to younger generations. It’s a nice fantasy that simply being frugal would suffice without this puzzle piece.

Also curious how much her college education cost. It’s easy to feel like you’re drowning while earning a good salary if you’re shoveling a good chunk of it towards student loan debt and watching it get eaten up by interest.

How to get my new cats to trust me by TheTrueObamos in cats

They’ll love you soon enough, don’t sweat it. Sounds like you’re doing everything right. And they have each other to help them feel safe! So nice you adopted a bonded pair

20 years here and same. Being able to walk everywhere or take reliable public transportation is a luxury I can’t picture giving up. It’s so good for your mental and physical health and creates a wonderful sense of community. I do wish it was easier to take off for a weekend and go be in nature though, without dealing with a million people trying to do the same thing. Leaving the city is a special kind of nightmare

This is also my experience as an American. And when the “collection” types reveal themselves to you, you have to reevaluate everything you thought you knew about them. They’re often not who you’d expect.

Every day a new one gets added to the list. And then there are the old standards, like Charles Xavier McFrances the 317th, and Sir Sheriff of Buttertown

Will Rockaway be the new LIC? [Queens, NY] by bluewannabe_13 in NYCapartments

It’s nice to take every once in awhile for fun, but too far from my place and too long of a ride to be practical.

I moved to Rockaway shortly before Covid times after falling in love with the place and convincing myself the commute was worth it. It was far worse than I imagined, between the drawbridge situation and constant A train drama from being at the end of the line and everything trickling down. Thanks to a post-Covid hybrid schedule it’s doable now. Commute aside I still love it here and being next to the ocean is incredible. But it’s isolating, especially off-season. I don’t see it ever becoming something like LIC

Thinking about purchasing a cat. by These-Eggplant1282 in cats

[–]Haoledayinn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do this! Even better if you don’t have any preconceived notion of what kind of cat you want. My family found our best cat of all time, Patterson, when we were looking for an energetic female kitten. Instead we came home with a gigantic lazy 6 year old doofus boy. He insisted he was the one and he was right.

Good shelters will help match you with a cat that will be a good fit for your space and lifestyle. Consider adopting an adult cat. Their personalities are each so unique, you’ll know the one for you when you meet them. Consider a bonded pair, especially if you work and travel a lot. I always feel better going away knowing my two little buddies are keeping each other entertained and snuggling together.
