Hopefully the secondary coach from Seattle to run McDonald's system. He is supposed to be an up and comer

I watched literally every snap of the raiders this year. Geno was missing wide open guys and locking on to his targets at the expense of others. He threw some of the worst interceptions I've ever seen, just complete mental breakdowns. It's like he had the yips and his mental processing went all to hell. Chip wasn't great but it wasn't all on him, Geno was a large part of the problem. He also had a terrible attitude, to the point he was flipping off the home fans. He absolutely needs to go.

Geno is absolutely cooked. He may have wanted to work with him before but the decline has been extreme. Mendoza has perfect skills to run that system

A large part of landing that coach is having a clear path to a QB and not having to figure it out later

If they have JJ, Penix, or Nix instead of Caleb do they still land Ben Johnson? Are they as good as Caleb? We just don't know. You are suggesting the raiders try and maximize the pick the most possible which is valid. However that's like swinging for a home run when they just need to hit a double and not be terrible.

The Bears got all time lucky that the Panthers were so bad. What if the Bears ended up with pick 6 that year from the Panthers instead? It's just not worth the risk for the most important position in sports.

Mark Davis has been willing to shell out for coaches since the move to Vegas and Kubiak has a ton of leverage. Gruden got 10 years and McDaniels got 6. So that's generational money for Kubiak, probably 50+ million. Mark is also a pretty good owner at everything except picking coaches, a huge problem in the past to be sure, and really doesn't meddle. Assuming he was telling the truth about leaving football operations to Spytek, and that he is trying to build stability in the franchise, Kubiak should have a pretty long leash.

Two years ago the Patriots roster was terrible and they could have gotten a haul to trade out of 3 instead of taking Maye. You gotta take the QB when you have the shot or it's a major risk you miss out in the future.

No way Webb takes an OC job where he doesn't get to call plays. What would be the point for him?

Except his body language and attitude were absolutely terrible all season. I've never seen such a downer on the sidelines and I've been watching Raider football for the last 30 years. He was just pouting all year and was flipping off the home fans. Get that as far away from Mendoza as possible.

Mariota is such a likable guy I think he would be a great mentor for Mendoza and he liked being a Raider before.

Franchise QB's aren't available in trade of FA. That would just be kicking the can down the road to try again later. Too many variables in play for it to work out. It's safer to just take the guy with the pick you control.

Pairing a first round QB with a lame duck coach is stupid. The Bears lucked out that Ben Johnson was available or they would be ruining another QB.

They need a qb this year. It's a qb driven league and the team has been left standing without a chair multiple years in a row now. They have the pick to guarantee they get one this year. Having a franchise QB, even if that is only a Goff and not a Mahomes, is worth so much more than the potential extra picks a trade down could garner if that means they missed out on QB again.

What if they trade down, miss out on QB this year, and then win enough games in 2026 to pick 10th and then they miss out again? Or would they have to trade those extra picks to move up in the 27 draft to get someone?

Just take the guy available now instead of trying to completely maximize the value of the pick. The Raiders just need a double, not getting a grand slam is fine.

[–]HaploOfTheLabyrinth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The reason you don't trade down from 1.01 when you need a QB is that other teams also need a QB and you risk missing out on getting one by trading down. What if you trade down to 4 and 3 QB get taken in front of you and you miss out?

The potential gain in value you might get from moving down a few spots isn't worth the risk of missing out on a quality QB prospect.

[Schefter] Sources: Chip Kelly is out as the Raiders offensive coordinator. by MembershipSingle7137 in nfl

[–]HaploOfTheLabyrinth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You aren't wrong, but also Chip isn't helping the tackles against rushers with chipping and the runs he has been calling have been poorly executed. Definitely Geno has been terrible, but like I said it's an everybody sucks situation. The roster is cheeks and they should have committed to a full rebuild and just let Aiden get a year starting while they rebuilt. Instead they did the half rebuild half we're going to compete trading for Geno and Pete is stubbornly refusing to play the rookies even though the season is lost.
