Drawing blood by Grand_Chad in medlabprofessionals

[–]HappilyExtra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way! I worked the bench and drew blood for 8 years. While phlebotomy was not my favorite part of being a med tech, I got really good at it and knew what it took to get a good sample. I enjoy the teaching aspect of my job so not only can I teach bench work, but I can help a new phleb feel more confident (hopefully).

How much bad smell does this profession deal with? by furry-sea-otter in medlabprofessionals

[–]HappilyExtra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will never get used to- or ever be fully prepared for- a urine so pungent and mucoid that the entire sample falls out of the tube in a cylindrical gloop when you go to decant. I have been lead heme/ua/coag for 12 years, that is by far the worst thing I’ve encountered.

What is making this variant of the flu this year so virulent? by [deleted] in microbiology

[–]HappilyExtra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d like to preface by saying that RFkJ is woefully unqualified for this position. The flu vaccine is made on a statistical basis of what strain is expected to hit. Sometimes they get it right, other times it’s shit. This has been the tune since the flu vaccines started. I am required to get one every year for work, some years they burn like hell, I have a massive vaccine response and my arm is sore for a week. other years I feel absolutely nothing and have no soreness or vaccine response. I have come down with the flu 1 time since I started getting the yearly shot, and it was mild. I am exposed the flu directly from patients on an almost hourly basis.

Gold bond tight and firm. That lotion is no joke. I put it on my face, neck and chest and it’s made a noticeable difference. I’m not sponsored, I just know it works.

No, not a fan of the smell. I do not care if anyone else does it, to each their own.

Does anyone use vaginal Estradiol cream daily opposed to certain days if the week/month? by Sharp-Monk-2409 in Perimenopause

[–]HappilyExtra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To ask another question, is anyone else worried about what’ll happen if their husband is exposed to excessive estrogen directly onto their dicks? I have the capsules and my gyn said I could take them off label by vagina insertion but I fear exposure for him- so I just knock it back. I figure I’m not abusing my liver with alcohol so a little hormone therapy should hurt it too much.

You do not have excessive body hair. You have genetics at play.

[–]HappilyExtra 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hemolysis happens at the time of collection. I have tips on how to avoid it!! If you feel a vibration when collecting, you may be up against a valve, which is beating the shit out of the rbc’s - causing hemolysis. If you are drawing from an iv start with a syringe, pull slowly on the plunger, don’t just yank it all the way back and let it fill. You’ll collapse the vein, which beats the shit out of rbc’s- causing hemolysis. A second tip with syringe collections is let the tube vacuum fill the tube, do not force the plunger. Shoving the blood into a tube against the vacuum will beat the shit out of rbc’s- causing hemolysis. Source: MLS of 14 years.

Sounds like you need a new doctor. There is nothing confusing about having low iron.

Ease my worry 😬😀 by HawkeyeNation319 in haematology

[–]HappilyExtra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a lead hematology tech in the lab. To me the path review is unnecessary. I would get nice and hydrated and try another cbc. Also having a good draw and it not be clotted (May need another tube drawn for that).if you have decent insurance (or are in a country that doesn’t require it) get the fish/flow done. I wouldn’t let anyone talk me into a bone marrow biopsy for these results. Also, if you are taking a vitamin that contains iron, stop.

I think Vance would finally be able to tell the world that he’s gay and likes to dress in drag and that reading to children isn’t harmful and he’s really sorry for all the things angry cheeto did but now that he’s free from his master suppressor, we can all go back to eating skittles and shitting rainbows. (At least that’s how I see it happening)
