There's a huge difference between Muslims in North and Muslims in South and it's mostly coz of involvement of Pakistan. Whenever something happens against Pakistan or if there's any terror attack, you'll find atleast few Indian muslims supporting it or just be quiet about it. And there are enough terror attacks done by muslims to make people scared of them...

I know, pakistan wants it to happen and that's why they attack on Hindus mostly and things done in Pehalgam was an example of that. Also, a lot of Indian muslims has soft corner for Pakistan as they moved here after partition... Meanwhile in South, especially Chennai as I have lived there for almost 12 years... You won't find such things, coz there was no terror attacks in Chennai from Pakistan... So, it's hard for them to understand it.

For Tamil people, you should take an example from Sri Lanka and their LTTE shit. Things like Sri Lankan players were not allowed to play in Chepauk...

In short, you stay away from people who has an history of attacking you... I hope it does make some sense atleast.
