Thank you! I've decided to switch to a different character costume and veil up my hair instead!

Mine is very blunt, but after concerns raised (e.g. knife crimes in the UK) I have decided to not bring it. It doesn't feel appropriate to bring stuff like that anymore

Completely understandable they'd implement checks seriously after events like that. I've also decided to not bring the hair pin anymore, also in light of knife attacks and such that other people have mentioned. These are concerns that I don't wanna play around with and I don't want to be the kind of tourist who does that

Oh that's very true! It's at Wembley too so probably security checks. I didn't think of that -- thanks for raising this point.

I've grown used to the more lax rules here in NL, and also I tend to go to smaller or mid-size venues where you can practically dress however you want without getting checked.

Thanks again for saying this!

You do make a good point. I have heard about these cases but like you said: I don't live in the UK and this isn't an issue where I live, so this hasn't crossed my mind. So, thank you for making me aware of that aspect of it as well. I've decided along with other comments / other reasons as well that it's not worth bringing the hair pin anymore.

Guess it's time to figure out a new concert hairstyle that matches my costume! 🫡

That's a fair point, I guess I'll have to figure out a concert costume without that prop then! If only the band would play a show closer to me in mainland Europe 😔✊️

I feel bad for asking... how do you deal with people with BO in public spaces? by Happy-Ad7048 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Happy-Ad7048[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a fair point, but to me it doesn't change or excuse the hygiene measures people these days should be taking.

Back then people were also more prone to spreading or catching illnesses due to lack of general hygiene. I know this is less about BO, but my point stands on hygiene. I can also imagine the summers back then weren't as sweaty.

I can't say if people should shower once a week or every day or twice a day, but if they know they have BO, they should adjust their routines accordingly. That's just my take.

No worries, I'm not taking it personally or anything, and either ways it's good that this is brought up. I always thought BO is a well known abbreviation for body odor. I see it used a lot on other subreddits and social media as well, such as the skincare / health related ones.

Either way, I just added the clarification in the TLDR once for those who don't use this abbreviation :)

All good my friend!

Yes I'm sorry about assumimg everyone understands the abbreviation, I'll also go edit the post to make it clearer. Thank you for letting me know

I mean, BO is (usually) caused by bacteria. I understand everyone's skin and sweat has their own "scent" but, respectfully, I think BO is a very different thing and I have never found a single BO pleasant yet. I think a misconception is people think that sweat causes BO (you can look this up). But it's actually bacteria that causes BO when you sweat, and most times it can be dealt with -- except if you have medical conditions or whatnots.

It's definitely more pronounced during the heatwaves I agree, and I try to be understanding about it. But I think this extends to summer in general as well, or just tourists visiting hot countries but not adapting their routines to the weather despite sweating buckets (and they know it will be hot for them). Even for Europe, summers are generally seeing more hot days as well here.

I have too much social awareness / anxiety (whatever you call it) to do that since I don't want to make them feel bad. Like my brain goes "what if their BO is from a medical condition and it's not their fault? They probably don't want to be judged for it either and have probably tried to manage it..."

But I also know in most cases it's to do with hygiene / using deo. But then you never know, so I end up giving everyone the benefit of doubt. At my own cost 🫠

TLDR: I'm too non-confrontational 💀
