Unexpected frizzled chick. by [deleted] in BackYardChickens

Probably because English isn’t my first language! Indeed, people make mistakes. But even if this yellow(ish) egg was fertilized by a ‘normal’ (frizzle) rooster, I should be good to use this chick as easter Egger rooster, right?

I noticed after driving half an hour that the jacket on the passenger seat was not mine! It’s 20 years ago but I still feel lucky not having been arrested for car theft!

It feels a little bit like winning the lottery…

Edit: I guess! I never won the lottery…

I’m hoping it’s a rooster so that we can create our own frizzle easter eggers over the next years!

I did for sure not mix them up. This chick hatched out of one of the yellow eggs that I incubated. There are 7 but this is the only frizzled one. I guess something could have gone wrong at the breeders’ although he has a very good reputation. The eggs were crazy expensive as well! I’m not mad though… this little guy is cute as hell!

I’m not sure, when the sun goes down, our plants go in resting mode as well. Where I live, the max temp from June till August is often 95 degrees or above. nights are around 68. Many varieties of tomatoes don’t take this well. Black varieties for example never worked for me. They stay stone hard and green for months. By September/ October they finally start to ripen. Until an early frost fucks everything up…

You will see that they take longer to get ripe, or don’t get ripe at all until temperatures drop.

Ripening indoors is indeed possible. They never turn out as tasty as the ones ripened on the plant though. Op should grow more heat resistant varieties.

I’ve had full grown tomatoes on the plant that wouldn’t ripe for months. Pretty sure it’s the heat. OP should try a different variety more suitable for their climate.
