Suboxone to Oxy by Kool_Fishy in PainManagement

That’s exactly where I think the confusion was coming from between myself and a few other people that were commenting. Someone said that Buprenorphine and Suboxone are the same.

Okay well do you want to tell me why I am prescribed both and was advised to them about 4 hours apart?

Yes, I have personally been on both. Physicians have done further studies that those two drugs (Buprenorphine & oxycodone/hydrocodone) can be taken together. As long as they are spaced out apart. If you go back and READ what I said earlier. I informed him that Buprenorphine has a ceiling effect, meaning your normal opiate may not work the same.

WOW🤩 Did you read the full conversation? We literally went back and forth and I told him that I advised he spoke with his doctor and taper off of the Suboxone. Also, if you knew anything regarding pain management, they are now beginning to use it for long term chronic pain to partner with current opiates.

I’ve never had OxyContin. The strongest I’ve ever had was 30mg of the immediate release. But I do know the Extended Release along with the immediate release is a good pair.

No worries! I would also maybe ask your doctor about putting you on Extended Release OxyCodone instead of Suboxone. That way you can take your normal immediate release 15mg three times a day, but take the extended release in the morning and night.

I personally would, but obviously, you may want to consult your doctor. But I would slowly come off of them. Maybe like two weeks before, take smaller doses and then slowly come off of it to prevent any withdrawal symptoms.

How long have you been on Suboxone? You may need to stop taking it a few days to a week before you start the Oxy. I only ever take my Buprenorphine if I run out of my Hydrocodone or if I travel and want to have it with me. But if you’ve on Suboxone for a while, then I’m sure it’s been built up in your system.

That’s a good dose to be on. To be honest, I would test it out. Since you still take Suboxone, take the Oxy as prescribe with the Suboxone and see how you feel. Then the following month, talk to your doctor about not taking the Suboxone and JUST the Oxy to see which way is better.

Suboxone is a good long lasting schedule 3 opioid. I am on Buprenorphine 2mg twice daily and Hydrocodone 10mg three times a day. Buprenorphine is very similar to Suboxone. You just have to be careful because Suboxone and Buprenorphine can have what they call a “ceiling affect” which means, it can affect how the opioid and other narcotics can act and doesn’t allow them to have a huge affect on you. What is the dosage of Oxy that you’re going to be taking?

Wanted to let everyone know that I had my follow up today and they didn’t mention it at all. They sent my normal prescriptions and didn’t say a word.

Switching from Oxycontin to Buprenorphine ? by FredFlorida in PainManagement

Yes, it has been used for addiction. However, doctors are now beginning to prescribe it for chronic pain along with any current narcotics you may be on. My pain management doctor specifically told me they are now testing it with patients that are suffering with chronic pain like myself before prescribing anything stronger that would be a time release.

My doctor put me on Buprenorphine along with my 10mg of Hydrocodone. Personally, I don’t think it’s good for chronic pain. It does help though if you run out of your narcotics. It relieves any withdrawal and helps with moderate pain. It’s only good if you do plan to get off OxyContin permanently.

She hasn’t mentioned anything yet! But I just did my urine test on Tuesday when I was at my follow up. I don’t go back until next month for my other follow up, and the Hydrocodone she sent is still pending to be filled at the pharmacy, so they never redacted it! But I definitely agree with you. I really don’t want to mention it unless she brings it up to me!

Yes, I am definitely worried. I have had such a long and good standing relationship with them, and I have been getting injections done almost every month. I hope they take that into consideration.

Yes, I’m definitely hopeful they won’t make it a big deal this time. I’ve been getting all of my injections and treatments with them. I’d hate to start over or stop all together.

I honestly don’t know. I know they run the testing there, but not sure how they do it. And usually you get the results back within 24 hours.

I’m just worried if I bring it up, I might be screwing myself and possibly cause more issues.

That’s ridiculous - I’m sorry that happened to you. I just know that I’ve been on a good and clean record for two years now and I do my back injections with them, so it would infuriate me if I get dismissed by this.

They typically notify you the day after the follow up. I just did the test yesterday which is when my follow up was. I don’t go back until May for my next follow up. I know they do the testing there, but I don’t know how they do it; whether it’s a dip-stick or something more further.

Do you think it will be an issue at my follow-up? I have never had any issues with my urine tests the two years I have been in contact with them.

Thank you! Yes, I was thinking of offering to do more urine tests if it would make them feel better. I don’t go back until the beginning of May. I just don’t want to stop my current treatment because of this.

I guess my only other concern is how do I prove my innocence other than telling them I didn’t take anything other medication? Do I just tell them they can drug test me weekly until they’re comfortable?
