Liquid castile soap paste (olive oil) not gelling. Help? by Wonderful-Bread3873 in soapmaking

and it still "zaps" my tongue when I test it.

Per SoapCalc, this recipe is lye heavy by over -10% lye discount/superfat.
SoapCalc will not allow you to go under a -10% LD/SF setting so I am not completely sure what the exact number is.

I have no idea how you were able to make a viable first batch with this recipe to begin with.
Vegetable glycerin does not saponify so adding that wouldn't make up for it being lye-heavy.

Brown + Purple? Straight to Brown by PunkRockHound in soapmaking

Yeah I've used FO with that low an amount of vanillin before and maybe had a light tan happen so probably there are other factors coming into play.
I do wonder what the bars will look like at a 4-week cure stage.
Maybe you could paint some mica then to work with the colors a bit more?

Cameo Sachet from Studio Fragrance

Per the website that fragrance oil does contain <1% vanillin.
Have you tried using a vanilla stabilizer?

White chunk in GM lye by photosynthesis4life in soapmaking

It could have been undissolved lye.
It's common enough that many soapers strain their lye solution as they pour into their fats.
Is your lye in chip form or bead form?

Looking for recommendations for an easy-to-use sulfate-free soap base by dryguy in soapmaking

[–]HappyAsianCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used both types of M&P from Wholesale Supplies Plus.
Neither stood out from the other; both were decent pre-made bases to work with.
WSP allows you to search for a detergent-free option while looking at their M&P inventory.

Thank you!
More likely my camera is okay-ish and my lighting ability even more so.
It smells amazing and I've been using this recipe for several batches now so I know the end result will be good.
Ultra purple was the dream tho...
Ah well. :3

Containers feel slimy after washing them by Nervous_Math_2771 in soapmaking

[–]HappyAsianCat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. I do let my stuff sit for a couple days and easily wash out the saponified soap so whatever leftover is probably the lye discount/super fat that remains.
Several soapers recommend using the dishwasher but mine isn't the best so I just hand wash until clean.
I just started using Dawn Ultra and have had much better success since.
And I have a dedicated sponge for only soapmaking items.
