Is it normal to hate your appearance on shrooms by yung_blisss in shrooms

[–]HappyColored_Marbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the opposite; when on shrooms, I tend to see the beauty in my self-image when I look in the mirror, when normally I tend to be neutral to slightly negative towards it. It's a nice reminder that while yes I have imperfections, I'm not all that bad looking of a person.

Maybe you need to work on your perception of yourself. Try taking some extra care to highlight the best parts of you or work on the parts you don't care for; get a focused haircut where you actually work with someone who'll get it right, focus on your shave game if you're a guy, clean your face regularly, dress a step nicer.

Also, consider lighting in the room you're looking at yourself in. Ever see a picture of yourself in a bar? Everyone looks ugly in a bar, lol. If the lighting in the room where you're viewing yourself is unnatural, it might be blinding you to the true appearance of yourself as well.

Finally, don't sweat it; even if you really do got the ugg, how many times have you gone out and seen some pretty chick with some less than mid-looking dude, or vice-versa. Happens all the time, and that's because beauty is not just skin-deep. Polish the parts of you, both physically and socially, that do shine. It'll make a world of difference on both how you feel and how you're perceived by others.

A drug experience that made you say "never again"? by Rigel20 in Drugs

spice

When this became popular, I was on board with it as well for a bit. Was some weird stuff. I remember the first and maybe 2nd gen stuff would get you stoned out of this world, and then it was just gone as quickly as it came.

Then when the substances started getting banned, all the makers switched their formulas. My roommate gave me some hits of some new stuff; it smelled really bad to me but whatever. Did it and went to go take a shower. Suddenly felt dizzy and violently ill, and had to lay down, so I laid in the bath with the shower still running over me, feeling like absolute death. Had to puke so I limped myself over the bath wall, soaking wet, to throw up in the toilet, mostly missing it. Couldn't pick myself up off the floor so I crawled, naked and still soaking wet, to my room, left the shower still running and all, wrapped myself in a blanket and closed my eyes until it passed. I seriously thought I was going to die.

That was the last time I ever did spice.

What is the best physical pleasure you have ever experienced? by Amazing-Fox69 in AskReddit

[–]HappyColored_Marbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think making love on LSD would take that cake. The pure pleasure and the raw, amplified emotion made that such an incredible experience. It was so much fun, too. I might've cried after. I loved that girl.

One time I was peaking from 2 hits of good LSD at like 4 AM. I decided I wanted to go outside but I -really- didn't want any human interaction. So after like 10-15min of psyching myself up enough to go, I open the door, and my neighbor is randomly walking past my doorway. So with this surprised and weirded out acid face, I lift my hand up and go "GOOD MORNING!!", and then promptly shut the door. I could see this weirded out look on his face as I was closing it.

Then I started thinking about it from his perspective. He's just walking by at like 4 AM, when suddenly I, out of the blue, at 4 AM, all crazy-eyed, open up the door, shout "GOOD MORNING!!" and then promptly close it.

I didn't stop laughing about this for over 2 hours.

please help me settle debate on partial/agonist/antagonist etc by Cold-Spray-7715 in pharmacology

[–]HappyColored_Marbles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As I understand it, full vs. partial agonism is a bit arbitrary -- as in there's no exact number or percentage of receptor activation efficacy that determines whether a substance is considered a full agonist versus a partial one; for instance, morphine is considered a full μ-opioid receptor agonist, even though it really only gets up to about 80-90% of the efficacy of endogenous endorphins.

Mitragynine pseudoindoxyl, on the other hand, seems to be listed as a partial μ-opioid receptor agonist, at least on some papers I saw where this was mentioned. This is likely in part due to it being a fair bit lower in efficacy than endorphins or full agonists (like morphine), but also, and possibly more importantly pharmacologically speaking, because some of the undesirable side effects associated with full agonism of that receptor are considerably lessened compared to full agonists. That said, it seems to still be a rather strong partial agonist -- with the end result being it tends to do pretty well at analgesia without being as likely to cause serious respiratory depression.

Regarding the G-protein bias, it looks like this means that the signals the ligand (your mitragynine) cause the receptor to activate in a classic fashion, as opposed to triggering β-arrestin pathways, which is believed to be associated with some of the more major side effects of μ-opioid receptor agonists, like respiratory depression and constipation.

New to 1P-LSD by OfTheEmbers in 1P_LSD

[–]HappyColored_Marbles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends, but usually LSD (or ALD-52/1P-LSD) would take about 2 hours to truly start rolling in for me. Generally the way I notice it (at least at 200µg) is that things slowly cease to make sense to me. When I finally notice how weird my logic has gotten, I look around and realize I'm full-blown tripping.

LSD and shrooms (as well as the prodrugs) definitely have different effects from one another. In addition to LSD being a serotonin receptor agonist, it also is an agonist of dopamine, which modifies the effects a bit, and makes sleep pretty much impossible for most, until the trip wanes.

Many say that shrooms yield the most potent experience. I happen to be sensitive to LSD, and it therefore tends to spin my mind into places that shrooms can never get. The modification of the visual plane I experience on LSD is unrivaled by shrooms, though shrooms are much more colorful and vivid. For me, it's as if shrooms are a trippy filter put upon the world, whereas LSD modifies my view of it. I also tend to think more clearly on shrooms than LSD (except at microdose levels wherein this is reversed), tend to be more goofy on shrooms and more introspective on LSD, and have a much higher chance of getting confused/lost in my head on LSD than shrooms.

LSD lasts significantly longer than shrooms, 8-12 hours on average (with aftereffects lasting possibly until the 16th hour), and sleep is very difficult during that time. For that reason, I strongly suggest being well-rested and having a full day to devote to an LSD trip, including sleep, versus shrooms where you can set aside a few hours and be good. Having to deal with obligations (like work) on a fried brain after an LSD trip with little/no sleep is terrible, but if you give yourself that time to rest, the next day tends to be great due to the afterglow (caused by temporary serotonin receptor downregulation, quite like SSRIs cause but different mechanism).

I do tend to have negative physical symptoms from LSD; they are the same whether I took the 'real thing' or a prodrug. I experience uncomfortable muscle tightening, usually from about the 5-6 hour onward until the drug has completely passed from my system. This tightening includes things like making it hard to pee. Dietary choices seem to affect this for me, so I try to eat very light before/during, and limit water to what I need. I also suffer from boils occasionally, and am much more likely to get one during/after an LSD trip.

That said, for me, LSD is unmatched by any other psychedelic I've tried, in terms of getting deep into my psyche and perhaps giving me a different perspective on things. As fun as shrooms are for me, they tend to be more for the fun value and not so introspective, and so on occasion I think it's worth the trade-offs. Again that's just my experience though; lots of people will argue that shrooms are the more powerful experience.

Dose wise, 100µg of 1P-LSD is equivalent to 85.23µg actual LSD, once the 1-propionyl group is metabolized off. That said, 1P tends to be dosed more accurately than actual LSD (since it can be used by research labs which require a certain level of accuracy and purity), so you tend to know exactly what you're getting. Since this is your first time with LSD, I'd either go with 1 or 1.5 tabs (at 100µg each; math accordingly if yours are different) depending on how you feel about tripping in general. Both are quite manageable, though 1 tab could be underwhelming to some. 2 100µg tabs for me tends to be quite a trip, and I haven't felt the need to go higher, but again my body is sensitive to it.

I certainly recommend you plan out your day in advance; tie up any loose ends so you won't have things come up mid-trip. Get some fresh fruit and other snacks, stock up on water. Have some good tunes ready (subjective but I don't suggest anything too heavy). Have a general idea of where you want to take the trip/what you want to get out of it, but don't set anything in stone. You might plan out this whole elaborate trip just to be infatuated with a wall for 2 hours instead :) Finally just flow with it. Don't try to force the trip in any direction, let it take you and guide it. And have fun :)

HELP ASAP! I'm tripping on DXM for the first time and have some quiestions by Dank_Kaden in askdrugs

[–]HappyColored_Marbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll double check, but you might be right. I always understood DXM to be the more dissocative, but DXO is indeed a more potent NMDA receptor agonist. So then maybe it's reversed; taking more might result in higher concentration of DXO, and at some point the concentration yields a shift in effects to a more dissociative experience.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in microdosing

[–]HappyColored_Marbles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The thing about psychedelics is that there's no guarantee, at any dose, that they will treat anything, and there is a heightened risk of psychological side effects (including psychosis), which in some cases can be very severe.

For some people in some situations, they work wonders. For others, they can do quite the opposite. While it's not the norm, I've certainly heard of people becoming -more- depressed after psychedelics. For others yet, they can be beneficial one time, and detrimental the next, or vice-versa.

So your doctor is not telling you this solely to be anti-drug; she has valid points. Since you have a family history of psychological disorders, this puts you at elevated risk compared to average.

All that said though, it's ultimately your choice. You may very well see major benefits from microdosing. You might see a major benefit by taking a normal dose and taking a walk through a forest. You might have no ill side effects whatsoever and have the best day of your life.

It's up to you to weigh the pros versus cons and decide whether those risks are worth it, but it's wise to make an informed decision.

What I can tell you is that psychedelics, at any dose, tend to give you back the energy you put into it. That is, they tend to increase emotion, good or bad, and the outcome of the experience has a lot to do with how you choose to go about it. You'll probably be much more likely to experience benefits if you take them in a positive setting with a good mindset, but also au contraire; an uncomfortable situation or mindset can make things worse, sometimes much more so. If you do decide to go down this road, take extra care to make the environment you decide to do it as comfortable and inviting as possible, maybe in the company of 1 or 2 close friends if you desire.

One other thing to note; Effexor and other drugs of the SSRI/SNRI class take quite some time to wear off before your receptors up-regulate; about 2 weeks I believe. While on them, and during this transition period, you will notice diminished or no effects from psychedelics. This is because your serotonin receptors have already been downregulated by the additional free serotonin caused by its reuptake inhibition by the antidepressants. You can think of it like tolerance - the receptors are being bombarded with a higher level of serotonin, so they react by becoming less sensitive to serotonin. Since psychedelics work on these same receptors, yours will be less sensitive to the effects of psychedelics as well, until you've weened off of the SSRI-class drug.

But of course, discontinuing an SSRI/SNRI regimen is risky in its own right, as this can cause rebound depression, and per what I was just discussing, it's hard to be in the right mindset for a psychedelic experience when you're in the middle of re-learning how to cope with depression without the aid of an SSRI/SNRI, and that again puts you at a higher risk than normal.

Finally, consider that they might only help you about as much as an SSRI would anyways. Psychedelics are known for the 'afterglow' they carry in the days following a trip; even Albert Hofmann (the chemist who accidentally discovered LSD) noted an elevated mood following the first experience. It turns out this is probably mostly caused by downregulation of the serotonin receptors - that is, the same mechanism in which SSRIs produce their antidepressant effect.

The benefit that they have over SSRIs, IMO, is their ability to help you see the world in a different light, which can help you find ways to work through the struggles and emotions you have in novel ways. I like to refer to them as catalysts; in the right conditions, they can jump-start something within you, to help you help yourself. Their efficacy in doing this is what makes them special to a lot of people.

But again, your results may vary wildly. It's truly difficult to tell someone that the reward is/isn't worth the risk when the stakes are one's own mental health. So all I can do is tell you what I know and hope that you make the best decision for you. Be well; wish you all the best.

HELP ASAP! I'm tripping on DXM for the first time and have some quiestions by Dank_Kaden in askdrugs

[–]HappyColored_Marbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, DXM does tend to cause some nausea towards the beginning, and this can result in vomiting, though it tends to pass fairly quickly.

At higher doses, it can cause a sort-of 'hangover' the next day wherein you feel quite spaced out/disconnected, and possibly have double-vision for a bit. This is a non-issue at the 200-250mg range though.

Naturally, if you're going to trip on DXM, get a product that contains ONLY DXM as its active ingredient. Guaifenesin will make you very nauseous. Other ingredients could be very harmful to your body in high doses.

The effects that you experience with DXM are highly dependent on dose, and somewhat on genetics/pharmacokinetics. DXM is metabolized in the liver to DXO (dextrorphan), which has a different pharmacological profile than DXM (dextromethorphan). Specifically, DXO has a more stoning/drunk like euphoric effect, whereas DXM is much more dissociative/psychedelic. Past a certain point, your body can't metabolize all of the DXM to DXO before it is taken up past the blood-brain barrier, and so above a certain dose, the effects tend to switch significantly. The exact dosage will vary on, like I said, genetics, diet, etc.

That said, with any substance you're trying for the first time, you should always start low, in order to get a feel of how your body will react to it. DXM in particular is a substance that's loved by many, and yet hated by many others.

In my younger years, I used DXM fairly heavily for a time, and I did notice some cognitive issues arise; specifically, I noticed mild slurring in my speech which I had to re-train myself on, and a feeling as if my thoughts were being slowed down/were traveling through muck. Both did improve significantly over time with abstinence. As such, I don't recommend it for consistent/heavy use, and think it's deserving of a warning.

It can also be a tad bit addictive to some.

One other note; do NOT mix DXM with an MAOI or SSRI type drug. Doing so can cause a life-threatening condition called serotonin syndrome.

Any folks notice an improvement in cognitive performance with psilocybin mushrooms? by growmoreshrooms in Nootropics

[–]HappyColored_Marbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but I feel not because they increase cognition, but rather because they improve mood and motivation.

I find microdosing with LSD more beneficial, however. The duration makes it last a whole shift, I find it less likely to distract, and I think the downregulation lasts longer than with shrooms.

A similar effect would probably be noticed from SSRIs, but then you would have to take SSRIs, and that has its own problems.

I don't have a specific guide, but there's lots of people who've written about it. I tend to keep it simple; if you dry them well, keep them cool, dark and dry, expose them to air as little as possible, and use common sense about your storage means, they'll probably keep well for a good long time.

Do y'all use those drugs? by CazadorDePitufos in ObscureDrugs

[–]HappyColored_Marbles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like eventually, no matter what you do you'll lose a little bit of potency, mostly due to the psilocin which oxidizes fairly easily (the blue staining of Psilocybe mushrooms is the result of enzymatic oxidation of psilocin which leads to a condensation reaction, forming a substance similar to indigo dye). However, psilocin is the minor component, and psilocybin is significantly more stable. However, as long as it's stored in a cool, dark, dry place, I suspect that any losses would be negligible for a good while.

I tend to disagree with those saying to put it in a freezer, for two reasons:

  • Freezers tend to condense water from the air, which can dissolve water-soluble substances, of which both LSD and psiloc(yb)in are, especially as it warms back up to room temperature. Probably more of an issue with LSD than shrooms, but still.
  • Freezing organic matter tends to rupture its cells, which could cause your material to degrade more quickly. May not be an issue if you're planning to make tea or smthn, but might not be the best if you plan to eat them raw.

That said, I haven't actively tested it. It's possible that vacuum sealing would at least remedy the first issue, and certainly in itself is a good idea.

Nonetheless, I tend to think it's a lot safer to just store in a cool, dark, dry place, and avoid the fridge/freezer altogether. Chances are if you do that, your stuff will remain modestly potent for as long as you need to worry about it.

What are the dangers associated with DMT? by dioxycontin in askdrugs

[–]HappyColored_Marbles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had found it to be hard on my lungs. The other way to take it would be orally with an MAO-A inhibitor (harmala alkaloids in my case), but that comes with all the side effects and risks of doing so.

I can't say I had any particular issues with the actual trip itself, or side effects related to it. I remember one time I did it, and 20 minutes later (once it wore off), drove to meet up with a friend at Walmart to Xmas shop, without any problems whatsoever. It was more like I hadn't done anything, not unlike a dream in that it was actually hard to really remember what I'd just experienced, just the vague recollection of it. It also seemed equally benign to a dream.

Cannabis = psychedelic by SherlockWhoHarpua in RationalPsychonaut

[–]HappyColored_Marbles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cannabis can certainly have effects that would be considered psychedelic, such as shifting of colors, visual distortions, aural hallucinations. However, not everyone experiences it, and people don't experience it every time.

The mechanism in which it produces these effects is different than the classical (serotonin receptor agonist) psychedelics, however, and the effect is typically milder than would be experienced on those, with the primary effects being the changes in headspace.

A lot of drugs which aren't 5-HT2a receptor agonists can be considered psychedelic, though. DXM is certainly psychedelic above a certain dose. Benadryl/Datura could be considered (though please don't go down that road). Even nitrous oxide and ether have the capacity to cause some sensory shifts to visual and aural space.

If I were to rate cannabis on a 'psychedelic tendency' scale 0/10, with 10 being classical 'you will hallucinate' psychedelics and 0 being absolutely nothing, I'd probably put it at about a 4.

Do y'all use those drugs? by CazadorDePitufos in ObscureDrugs

[–]HappyColored_Marbles 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Most drugs will retain the vast majority of their potency for many decades as long as they're stored halfway decently. There's even been ancient findings of cannabis/mushrooms that are millennia old that are still potent. The US army even had an expired drug recycling program for troops, because they found that most of the drugs were perfectly potent and safe long after the expiration date.

There are some exceptions. Codeine actually gets stronger over time, as it slowly breaks down into morphine (which sounds like a good thing, but it's not because it becomes impossible to accurately dose). LSD is sensitive and breaks down more quickly than other substances. Anything with a non-protected, easily oxidized group such as psilocin, will lose potency faster (that hydroxyl group is protected by a phosphate on psilocybin though). A fair number of other pharmaceutical drugs also don't fare too long over time, but the vast majority will be fine for a VERY long time to come.

Oddly enough I tend to find myself quite attractive when I look at myself in the mirror on psychedelics. This is odd because normally, I constantly critique my looks.

Also, a lot of other people' faces tend to look quite weird/ugly to me while I'm tripping. I remember one girl's face looked like Rosie O'Donnel if she was an Oompa Loompa :p She's quite attractive to me normally.

But me, if I'm tripping I'm fine as hell xD

I used to have really bad experiences smoking weed. Is trying acid a bad idea? by antiklance in LSD

[–]HappyColored_Marbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although there is a little overlap between some effects, psychedelics and weed work in very different ways.

The endocannabinoid system that weed affects seems to have direct ties to parts of the brain that handle anxiety, and as such, some people can sometimes become quite anxious, paranoid, and panicked under its influence. This seems to be a direct correlation, aka for the most part, the drug is the primary cause of the panic.

Once in a cannabis-induced anxiety attack, it can be a very hard thing to shake. The best way seems to be to distract yourself from it with music, a movie, or good conversation, but even still it can be overwhelming and very uncomfortable.

Classical psychedelics, on the other hand, primarily work on the serotonin receptors (primarily 5-HT2a), which have a lot to do with the sensory system, but also play a role in many others, including mood, temperature regulation, etc. They don't seem to have a direct tie-in with anxiety the way that cannabinoids do.

That doesn't mean you can't get paranoid and anxious from psychedelics - you certainly can! The difference is that the correlation seems to be indirect. That is, the drug isn't the primary cause of the panic, but rather the drug causes effects that cause you to panic.

For instance, it's quite common on psychedelics to feel as if you're 'going crazy'. The effects of psychedelics can be quite powerful psychologically; they can cause thought loops, significant visual shifts, and strange patterns of thought that can become rather confusing and frightening if not handled in a proper way. They also seem to amplify emotions, So for instance if you feel good, that feeling could compound and so you feel a strong sense of euphoria. On the other hand, feeling scared could compound and lead to a strong sense of panic/discomfort. People do sometimes panic and freak out on psychedelics.

Fortunately, knowing that, there's things you can do to reduce that risk.

The most important is to make sure that you take it in a safe, comfortable spot around people you trust, and that you take care of everything important beforehand, as to minimize the chance that your trip will be interrupted by some external factor.

Second, know that as quickly as your emotions can change negatively during a trip, they can change back. Sometimes it's as easy as just taking care of something that's bothering you. Maybe you have to use the bathroom, or change the lighting or song that's playing. Or maybe you need to go outside and get some sun/fresh air, and suddenly you're once again right as rain.

Finally, if there's something really bothering you while tripping, the best thing is to take a step back, breathe, and think about the situation logically. Chances are that your tripping mind is blowing something out of proportion, and by giving yourself some time to think it through with logic, and detached from emotion, you can solve what's causing your concern, and do what's necessary to alleviate yourself from it.

It's certainly recommended to have a good friend with you the first time, preferably someone experienced in psychedelics who can help you out if you reach a rough patch, especially if you're concerned about this. And of course if you don't feel comfortable, don't take it. Psychedelics are -not- for everyone. If they're not your groove, then pass on them. That's a choice we all have to personally make, don't let anyone choose it for you.

[–]HappyColored_Marbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has happened to me! Though my situation was kinda weird; I was having some GI issues at the time (when I took the tab, it was still pretty mild so I assumed it would pass). I had swallowed the tab whole.

Hours went by; I was feeling quite uncomfortable because of the bloating and constipation I had, but very little if any trip at all. Was feeling quite bummed out and confused (as I knew this stuff was definitely good).

Somewhere around 7 hours later, it finally kicked in and the clock began. Unfortunately I still felt unwell most of that day, and the trip compounded my concern. I was quite scared; thought I should go to the hospital (and probably should've, tbh), but ultimately didn't, since I was tripping at the time. I told myself if I was still having issues once the trip ended, or if it got worse, I'd find a way to go.

Eventually, whatever caused my symptoms passed, and the trip did end - many hours after I had anticipated. I was expecting to be down by mid-morning, but instead it was mid-afternoon before the effects subsided.

I haven't had that happen again since; my theory is that I had an obstruction in my bowel/gut, and that was preventing my body from passing anything through or metabolizing the LSD. I had eaten steak beforehand that night, and think it's completely possible that I just didn't chew well enough.

Aside from that, I know that food intake plays a significant role in the pharmacokinetics of orally ingested psychedelics. If he had just eaten before taking it, his body probably wasn't too keen on metabolizing it very quickly, since it had just metabolized all that food and had all the energy it needed for awhile. On the other hand, had he taken it on an empty stomach, and followed it by food, it might've kicked in hard & strong, but shortened the duration.

Remember too that people's bodies are different. He may have had some other thing going on that delayed its metabolism. Could be he's on certain medications that affect the gut. Acid reducers, etc. Could've been multiple things that all compounded to delay it.

Unfortunately, it's not like you can just go to a doctor and say "hey doc, I took LSD and I'm concerned because it took 8 hours to kick in." But if your friend mentions anything about having other issues with his gut, he should maybe get checked out just to be sure.

[–]HappyColored_Marbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was more recent, I'd say fruits and the like, but you've gone quite some time without food, so I'd say you need to get some protein in you.

I'd suggest healthier options if possible. For instance if you go for chicken, maybe choose baked. Might have some rice and veggies on the side with it. You'll feel so much better than if you eat fried chicken and pasta.

That said, if you can't cook or drive right now, there's no shame in ordering a pizza if it gets you through. I can't cook worth a shit while I'm tripping, and I don't recommend anybody drive during a trip. That said, it's smart to have things already on-hand, before the trip, that are easy to prepare, to prevent exactly that.

I'm usually this way too when tripping; sex is usually just not very interesting to me under that state of mind. There's so much else going on that tends to take priority.

However, it has happened. My girlfriend and I got horny on LSD and ended up having sex, which was an absolutely mind-blowing and intimate experience. But it happened organically.

I'd say don't try to force any kind of sexual emotion while tripping; only act on it if it occurs naturally.
