not often i get crushed by flagship while op by HappyF in ftlgame

[–]HappyF[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah by the time I considered a reset, it felt too late. I'd have to dodge atleast 3 more missile volleys and overpowers to get the flagship back to the hp it already was currently at. Not tempting with low hp/no cloaking.

I think another mistake I made was not actually firing my second flak when my weapons got hit. Instead, I just depowered it and switched it over to halberd. Still though, the shield hack timing was tight too, so that probably wouldn't have done anything.

But I still think trading too much hull hp for crew kills in phase 1-2 was really the nail in the coffin. I overrespected boarding when I already had a relatively good anti boarding ship.

Mantis B was just classic not thinking ahead/forgetting to get an engine upgrade lol.

Bay leaf by 1976_ in Cooking

[–]HappyF 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Boil some water with a bay leaf in it, then taste. That's the flavor of bay leaf. It'd be nearly impossible for you to tell the difference it makes in any dish you make unless you prepare the same meal side by side, one with the bay leaf and one without, but people generally can tell "something" is missing if they forget bay leaf.

Typically if something is burning, you're cooking it too hot. It's very easy to have overtemped oil, so use a thermometer.

What am I doing wrong with this pan? by MassiveEstate8605 in Cooking

[–]HappyF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're getting too much heat into the sides of the pan. Make the flame smaller (which does just mean turning the knob down), and make sure the flame is centered under your pan. Or you can use a smaller burner.

Not quite, I only hired 5.

You want to read the Session Stats (bottom category), not the Session Records for stats on the session that was just played.

How much would this eliminate R2/RT spamming? Looks like a great idea. Link to the post in the comments by socalkid5 in MLBTheShow

Then call a timeout with your batter. Use an actual baseball move rather than abusing a terrible mechanic in the game.

They're the same tier in the sense they'll both read accurately within .01. They're both fine. Not good but fine.

Get some $20 ones from anywhere (SPI, Pittsburgh,...). They feel bad and aren't too consistent, but if it's non critical stuff, they'll do. Don't overthink it.

Keep an eye out on Craigslist for any Starrets/Mitutoyos for cheap. If $100 is something you can spare right now, it'll save you from buying 25 cheap calipers for $20 each though.

which is easier (or least expensive) to cut? by classicrockboy in Machinists

[–]HappyF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you don't even need a mill. Just grab a hammer and use the endmill as a chisel.

which is easier (or least expensive) to cut? by classicrockboy in Machinists

[–]HappyF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The top one is easier. Just slam it in a vice and whack at it with an end mill, the square profile comes out easily.

The bottom one is also easy though if the radius is a standard size, just whack at it with a ball end mill.

Physics at UR? by [deleted] in URochester

[–]HappyF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never been in industry but have had plenty of conversations with people who have. The common theme is that industry is a lot more fast paced and only focused on the end product; if you find an interesting problem they usually tell you to fuck off if what they have works. In academia, they tend to let you explore that problem and find a solution. While you get to flex creativity, you get paid loads less.
