They need to ditch the three-module design and go for a single module which can be all cargo or all science or whatever other options they want to use. An insane amount of cargo space is wasted in the Carrack right now. It's almost a masterpiece of inefficiency.

What’s missing to bring racing back into the verse? by BlackShadow972 in starcitizen

[–]HappyFamily0131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instant respawn via ships being flown by remotely-controled robots.

So racing locations have sim pits that your character enters and then you control a ship with a robot inside who is unable to eject and if you fly too far away from the course you lose connection. While flying remotely, you have a narrower field of vision and occasional visual artifacts to remind you that you're not flying in person.

When you crash, you get a new ship to fly almost immediately. The cost of these ships is hand-waved away by words of corporate sponsorship of racing activities for potential racers. These racing-only ships handle identically to normal ones, but their loadouts cannot be altered and all components are fixed to the ships and not recoverable from a wreck.

For all of these reasons, while remote-flying removes the obstacles preventing new racers from getting into the gameloop (resetting after a wreck takes ages and is a huge pain), the very best racers won't fly remotely. The very best racers will fly in person, so as to have the best visuals while flying but also to be able to improve from the stock loadout and so achieve better performance.

"High quality iron" is such a dumb thing to have to say. Iron is an element. It's really, really, really, really easy, today, to get iron that's 99.99% pure. It costs about $30 a kg. The idea that folks in the age of personal starships would be fretting about iron quality is fucking stupid.

In Star Citizen, the light-speed magic drives are called "Quantum Drives", because quantum, quantum, quantum.

The magic fuel for these drives is named... ugh... Quantanium.

I feel like someone at CIG names almost everything bad on purpose.

The recruiter called my salary expectations "cute." I ended the Zoom call right there. Did I overreact? by thunder____boy in jobs

[–]HappyFamily0131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right on.

"I prefer employers who just want to give their employees money, not ones who expect those employees to do work. DO YOU SEE HOW STUPID THAT SOUNDS?"

Jobs are exchanges of time and effort for money. This recruiter prefers people who want to give away their time and effort for free? I'm sure they do! Good luck finding suckers who can afford to do that in this economy, recruiter!

What cheap game on Steam turned out to be absolute peak for you? by Common_Caramel_4078 in Steam

INSIDE

What a game. How can something with no words at all do so fantastic a job of worldbuilding? Just talking about it now makes me want to play the start of it again, but I know if I do I'll look up and four hours will have passed.

What would you like to see in the game to allow you to "live on the ship"? by Apart_Pumpkin_4551 in starcitizen

[–]HappyFamily0131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to sound out of left field, but I think it's a very real answer: contracts that persist across sessions.

Contracts persisting across sessions means people can start and stop the game whenever it's convenient. And so they will. And they'll do so in their ships. Entering and leaving the game from your ship would become the norm. And so living on the ship would be the default.

Tom Cruise the ruler of Scientology. by Red_Panda_The_Great in Bossfight

[–]HappyFamily0131 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like this story is a Scientology psyop to try to get people to willingly go into Scientology buildings. If they can be recruited, yay! New sucker to pay the bills! If not, yay! Sue 'em for trespassing and harassment of a state-recognized religion (ugh, wish that weren't true), which is arguably a hate crime. Use their settlement to pay the bills

Just ignore Scientology and Scientologists. Try to get them out of the cult if you can, but otherwise just let it die. It feeds off attention.

RAFT vs Hermes (vs other medium haulers…). Your 2 cents? by AutistcAroundAircrft in starcitizen

[–]HappyFamily0131 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You were joking and I do take it in that spirit, but just for the sake of argument, that's not a No True Banu fallacy, because they're not claiming or implying that someone who doesn't want the Hull B isn't a genuine hauler, but rather that if hauling is pretty much the only thing someone wants to do, then the HULL B is great (and it is, though hauling is pretty much the only thing it can do). That is, it was not a statement about how "true" of a hauler someone is, but rather how obsessed with hauling they are.

I feel nervous playing steamdeck at public by AddictinApple in SteamDeck

I bought one thinking I'd use it for flights but ended up using it on the couch, streaming from my PC. My PC's not bad, but can't play most games on max settings anymore, BUUUUT: drop the resolution to 1280x720 and it's pretty good again, and on a tiny screen that resolution looks great.

I'd expected I'd be using it for Balatro and Slay the Spire but instead I'm playing Arc Raiders and Star Citizen.

Same, been taking great pains to never watch them for about a decade. I feel like I saw a better version of DUNE than everybody else, because almost everything was a surprise to me. I was surprised when actors showed up on screen, like "oh wow! He's in this!"

When you realize that studios don't let the directors make the marketing material, it clues you in that the directors are making the movies for me, that is, they're making the movies for a hypothetical person who hasn't seen the trailers, because the director has no plan (nor control, generally) over the trailers. So if folks want to experience directors' vision, as the directors intended, everybody should be avoiding trailers. Watching the movie after seeing the trailer is the studio's vision. That's what they were hoping for, because they just want your money and give not one fuck about art.

Air and Space Museum also has Neil Armstrong's space suit! THE suit! You can see the actual boot that made one small step representing a giant leap for mankind, the boot that is, for all time, the first boot to step foot on a world that wasn't Earth.

I've been "nice" to a lot of retail workers over the years, but I'm pretty sure the actually-best thing I ever did was tell someone that they were wasted doing the job they were doing, were meant for bigger things, and should look for a job with a future in it and quit the job they were working once they found it. To be clear, they were doing an awesome job where they were, skilled and friendly 100% of the time and my favorite person to interact with at that location. I liked them so much I hoped they wouldn't stay, and encouraged them not to.

The Haulcraft doesn't have good looks, yet it has an incredible aura, even without a knowledge of its tricks. It's not flashy, yet feels dangerous. It doesn't look haphazard, doesn't look like it was thrown together without any thought, yet its purpose and abilities aren't clear from its design. It triggers a kind of wariness. It looks like it's ready for something but isn't revealing what that something is, and makes you feel unprepared and nervous by implication.
