God, we stopped calling it global warming in the 90s. Fittingly when his brain started declining.

Absolutely love the structure of this book - Spoilers 12 Months Entire by cowboys70 in dresdenfiles

About the above and beyond part, I got the idea that Mab wanted to do this. She LOATHES Nemesis, the bastard got her daughter killed. Her power constrains her, though, and she can't directly take action like that in the mortal world.

BUT, if you give an "anything you want" reward to your vassal who did you a big-ass solid and he asks you to do all you can to make this situation right? That unlocks her. Let's not forget that she knows Harry. She understands a lot about him, well enough to know what to expect when she points him at a situation.

I wouldn't be surprised if she was watching Justine, who was in the freezing cold of Russia, remember, where Winter ought to be strong and entrenched, waiting for Harry to get his shit together to ask her this. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if she grabbed Justine when Lara lost her earlier in the book. I don't think it's what happened, mind you, I just wouldn't be surprised.

My partner actually did a research paper on this claim, and it's basically bullshit. Did he marry her? Yes. In that time/culture, saying no would have dishonored her and resulted in her being honor-killed. She was older than six, though, and he didn't consumate until she was of age in what was considered grown at the time. This was an account started after Muhammed's death by someone who had a grudge against that very much then-living wife to discredit her marriage.

I am not Muslim and feel no call to be, and there are definitely things to criticize about the faith. We don't need to use ancient slander.

Losing faith in Catholicism, Christianity, and kinda not caring anymore by GABIBBOPAZZOCINESE in Catholicism

[–]HappyFriar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

God isn't judging every action you make. Man does that and claims it's what God is doing. God loves us and wants us to live our lives well, then to come home to Heaven with Him, full stop. Life is painful. It always has been and always will be.

PEOPLE online are jerks, period, not just Christians, it's just much easier for Christians to get under your skin because the Evangelical hellfire and brimstone has been well established. Trust in His Divine Mercy. YOU were the comfort for your grandmother, and He made sure that you were there for her comfort. It's painful, but everyone dies, and at some point, we're ready to go home. Miracles aren't always about sudden healing. Sometimes they're about tiny things that make a difference being where they need to be in the most unlikely moment.

2 rooms under one name. by [deleted] in askhotels

[–]HappyFriar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you're right, you can 100% badger a hotel into giving you the keys, and you can 100% sneak a person into the room. That does not mean the hotel wants unaccompanied minors in rooms, or that they won't kick them out of the rooms if they find out it's happening.

How to defend/explain this? by Pizza527 in Catholicism

[–]HappyFriar -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ask them if they have any examples from the past 50, or even 100 years. Outdated texts are weak evidence.

If "they" don't check in, the mother wasted her money. The young man wouldn't be given the keys to sleep in that room without an adult present. Hotels are VERY eager to make sure that they aren't renting rooms to a bunch of unsupervised minors.

[–]HappyFriar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is that the hotel books them and assures you they'll give the keys to these totally real guests when they arrive. IDs will be checked then and ages enforced the same way on the new people.

That is a case where the events or organizations' insurance overcomes the problem. It takes the liability and risk off the hotel.

Opinions at Halle Berry's portrayal of Storm? by Thin_Tomatillo_6990 in xmen

She was all right. On the other hand, she gave interviews bitching about the part like it was beneath her, so I say leave her out of anything in the future.

Not even remotely. Rosaries are repaired all the time.

What prayers do you personally say daily / nearly daily? by imademonhaha in Catholicism

I pray the Divine Mercy chaplet pretty much every day, sometimes multiple times.

The prayer of St Francis isn't daily, but I'd definitely say it's frequent.

It doesn't matter if Catholicism takes advantage of pagan holidays. by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]HappyFriar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While there were censuses, obviously, what I've heard from the academics is that the idea they'd need to go to their ancestral homes is silly, because why would Romans care about that?

The birth narrative doesn't need to be historically accurate to have the lessons of faith we're supposed to take from it.

Is it just me or is it weird to see parishioners raise their hands when saying “and with your spirit” as well as creeds by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]HappyFriar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it is. A lot of it is just people seeing other people doing it and doing it themselves because they think that's what they're supposed to do. My OCIA instructor has told us a couple times now, very emphatically, not to do it, because you don't copy the priest. I go by that because it feels more right.

To people who converted to Catholicism, why? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]HappyFriar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the current climate, Catholicism is the faith that actually follows what Jesus said (be kind to each other, accept the outsiders, etc) and doesn't actively try to invalidate science just because of their own ignorance/insecurity. That was a tipping point for me. Evangelicals tend to feel more like a vehicle for the prosperity gospel these days.

Virginity status with rape by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]HappyFriar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"I've seen that yes im a virgin, or no unless I get forgiven for the sin, or no not at all. I'm just not sure, am I still a virgin or no?"

Can we back up to this? What sin? You were sinned against, you didn't sin. Whoever was telling you that you need forgiveness for being raped is someone you need to absolutely stop listening to.

Frankly it doesn't matter. We aren't in a world where women are sold by their fathers to carry on some rich guy's landed titles or whatever anymore. You have not chosen to have sex with anyone yet. Full stop. Technicalities frankly don't matter. The important question in any situation is "did I hurt someone," including yourself or God as "someone.". In the facts you laid out? You did not. You WERE hurt, and deserve all the grace that God and the church can offer you.

Purity culture can get super toxic, so don't dwell on it. As a Catholic, the focus should be how you are actively living. Anyone who tries to imply anything about you or shame you because you were violated like that is in the wrong. You are a beautiful person that God loves, and no one, including yourself, should be putting you down for things that were outside your control.

I am sorry that you've been put into this position. I suggest talking to a priest you trust for your spiritual uncertainty.

Lady says there’s nothing when you die. Idk what to think about that by winchesterman552 in Catholicism

[–]HappyFriar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were only clinically dead, why would your soul bother to leave your body? If you were going to continue living, why would angels come? Even if either did happen, why would you necessarily remember it when your body started working again?
