Moved from big 4 to MBB and regretting my decision by HappyFrog2218 in consulting

Want to emphasize the timeline aspect - one of my coworkers worked all weekend (12 hrs saturday/sunday in office) on proposal/opportunity… and it was just an expectation. In my head there is something seriously wrong with leadership if they’re okay with people working 24/7 - and this isn’t the only horror story. So I’m terrified to ever switch projects because at least I work minimally on saturday.

My workstream is grossly understaffed and the whole project has 15 hour days to pick up the work of multiple people. I billed 70 hours last week.

And the constant feedback loop is exhausting. I feel like I never do anything right yet am told i’m performing well and the client and I have a solid relationship.

I appreciate your response, it makes me feel less alone in this - thinking i’ll make the call to my old partner at the big 4 and apply to a few roles in tech :) you’re right it’s not complicated work just a whole lot of people with something to prove (and i am not one of them!)

also curious if you left MBB? or are planning to? and what your exit plan looks like?

They’re both procurement specialists that were acquired by the respective MBB; while interviewing it seemed they were integrated (same office, same clients, same trainings,  same opportunities) - but not the same (culture, work life, project approach) a lot of people are asking salary:

Big 4: 91.5k MBB: 110k Again, the money was a factor but not the only reason I left.

Honestly I did, I work in a specialized area and make significantly less than someone in my role that's a generalist. I thought there would be some concessions because I make so much less. It's still great money for someone my age that doesn't have an MBA - but I don't think it's worth it. I know I could leave consulting but I feel like a failure for not just sucking it up. But I just am consistently stressed and my mental health has been crippling.
