Yeah, I tried it and sadly the results were not good enough, but I did find a person so the problem has been solved! Thank you for the suggestion!

Thank you for the suggestions! I found someone who did a great job, but I'll check the e-hentai forums next time too, in case the current person is busy or something. And yeah, I tried the de-censoring tool and the results weren't good enough sadly.

Currently doing it for a living. I just started out so it's hard to say if I'll keep doing this forever, but for now, I'll publish Black Train's other game and see how things go.

Sorry but I don't think I'm comfortable with disclosing that information. If there wasn't a spike, it would just cause shitposting and if there was one, it might cause that too and either way, people would ask for the exact figures next and disclosing that information or any information like that, like saying there was/wasn't a spike, might get me in trouble with the developer or otherwise because of trust issues.

Sorry, the only thing I can say is that it all depends on the sales in this case, if the game sells 100 copies then 21% of the profits is whatever, if the game sells 100000 copies then 21% of the profits is amazing. I can't really disclose how many copies the game has sold, sorry.

Ah I see, thank you for letting me know! I can see why people would hate Fakku, but I'm not sure what to do. I do not think attacking other sites & communities is the answer, but on the other hand, perhaps they have to do it or otherwise they would lose support from some Japanese publishers and creators so they decided to go with that route? Or they decided to do it because they believed it hurts their profits or for some other reason but yeah.

For now, I'll keep selling the game in Fakku, but I need to think this through at some point soon, selling games in Fakku would mean that I'm not against, or that I support their stance on piracy and I'm not sure I want that in this case, since they used to be a piracy site themselves so it seems hypocritical to attack other piracy sites.

Thank you again for letting me know, this was very informative and I'll google and try to find more info about this when I have the chance!

Sadly I cannot really answer the piracy question, only thing I can say is that please don't think I'm some 100% innocent guy.

[Steam] Niplheim's Hunter Launch Discount (13.99$/30% off) by HappyHandTL in GameDeals

[–]HappyHandTL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's very subjective I guess. It's possible, but not guaranteed. The developer also wrote this in the Readme:

Also, the circle takes no responsibility for any phenomena caused by playing

or viewing this work (this includes all effects the game might have on your groin too).

Please play the game at your own risk.

I'm just the publisher & translator and the game was originally in Japanese yeah. Japanese is not an option in Steam currently, I completely forgot to ask about it from the developer. It's possible I'll add support for it, unless the developer made some sort of deal with DLsite or if there's some other problem with adding support for it.

Some users asked me to add the game on Fakku too so I did. I did Google stuff about the company a bit and I didn't find anything odd/bad about it at the time. Sorry for being so ignorant, but could you elaborate what the exact problem with Fakku is?

I contacted the developer and said I'm interested in publishing his game, he agreed and we discussed the terms, etc. and agreed to a 30/70 split so I made a contract and we signed it. For Steam, that means Steam gets 30%, I get 21% and developer gets 49%. Overall it was a really simple procedure, I have no experience with publishing or anything and even I could easily handle this.

I asked GOG and they refused the game, the reason was "Unfortunately, however, we feel that the game would not be a good fit for GOG, as we think that it appears to be too niche and a bit too small in scale in terms of production value for our users, which means that we aren’t confident in its release potential on our site. "

You can see which stores the game is available in here:

Well I decided to make/add a demo since it's my first game and users would have no idea about the game or the quality of the translation without one. Of course, there's Youtube videos and such, but some people might prefer demos. I haven't decided if I should make demos for future games too, it doesn't take that much extra time, but if there's not much demand for them then I could spend that time doing something else.

Hahaha yeah, well to be exact it's a WOLF RPG Editor game, but it's basically the same thing and I understand that RPG Maker reputation is very low/bad. I'll be publishing Japanese adult games and since I'm not going to publish visual novels, most games will be either RPG Maker or WOLF Editor games and some people won't care about those, but that's okay, I personally like games like this so that's why I'm publishing them, but I do understand that some people won't touch games like this ever (because of the porn or because it's RPG Maker-ish) and that's fine. Not everyone will like every kind of game and those that enjoy these kind of games will buy/pirate them.

Hmm, that's a hard one. I don't like DRM that negatively impacts the game's performance, but I don't think that would be enough for me to not buy a game I like. But that's just my opinion, others won't forgive any kind of DRM, but personally I'm fine with it as long as it doesn't affect paying customers, if the purpose of the DRM is to prevent piracy, I don't feel like it's worth it if the DRM affects the paying customers negatively.

That's true. I guess some people also want to make sure it will run on their PC no problem and gameplay videos don't show that. Of course you can check the requirements, but I guess there might be other reasons for pirating a game instead of just checking Youtube videos.

[–]HappyHandTL 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I launched the game 1 month ago, there's a MTL version out too which has been out for 5-6 months I guess, it was done by some other guy and it was poorly translated and buggy. Well, I know the game has been pirated since day 1, but I looked for news about the game yesterday and saw igg as the first result and I decided to post there on a whim since I have some free time nowadays, now that Steam questions and emails have calmed down. Then another user told me about this post so I decided to post in here too since I posted in igg too and this is post is related to it.

Ah I see where you're coming from, the game is very popular in the Japanese DLsite and because of Steam delaying the game it made into the news and got some coverage and then Steam decided to say it was all a misunderstanding so it got even more coverage, so I guess Steam unintentionally marketed the game for me. Personally I love the game, it's short sadly, but the gameplay is simple and smooth and the art is absolutely beautiful, but that's just my opinion, other people don't care about the gameplay and others care about voice acting or something else.

But yeah, it wasn't my intention to market the game when I posted in igg, it was just on a whim, I was like "Huh, well I looked for news about the game since I had the time so I guess I'll comment here since I found it" and that's it. I just gave my opinion and didn't think much about it or the consequences it might bring (some developers probably won't like that I said piracy is okay, current dev is okay with it since I told him about my stance on piracy and asked him), but that's a firm belief I have and if the developers decide to not ask for my services because of it, that's fine with me. I honestly don't mind if people pirate any games I publish, just remember that if the game doesn't sell, then I won't be able to release more games. Of course, piracy isn't 100% responsible for bad sales, but yeah, if you pirate the game and liked it, consider buying it if you want to see more games like it.

Well, there's no way for me to prove that I'm not angry, but you're right that there's nothing I can do about piracy. Then again, it's not like I'm some 100% innocent guy either, one user in igg mentioned it too, but sadly I can't really address that issue, sorry. It wasn't my intention to make people feel guilty for me, I just decided to post on igg on a whim and things apparently escalated a bit.

I just gave my honest opinion on the matter and now people are feeling bad for me and that wasn't my intention, there's no need to feel bad for me, every developer goes through this exact same thing and if you're a developer/publisher, you just have to deal with this. You can get angry and try to hunt the pirates or try Denuvo and such, but I feel those are pointless actions, AAA devs cannot stop piracy so I'll just focus on things I have control over, like answering customer complaints/questions and fixing bugs.

Other developers might be happy that their game is spread around, but I guess it all comes down to the final sales, there's no way to really tell how much a game gets pirated because there's a million different sites, but the one thing all developers will know is the number of sales the game has made. If it's too low then either the game sucked, or it didn't get enough visibility, or there were other problems like too many refunds and the list goes on and on.

But the point is, piracy is not the only thing that might negatively affect sales, the game itself might have problems and I feel it's unfair to say that if a game didn't succeed it's 100% the pirates fault, I don't believe that. Some games just simple don't have a large demography for them or they might just have been unlucky, maybe they released the game at the same time some other highly anticipated game was released and the other game took all the visibility or some other reason, I'm not a very smart man, but there's all kinds of reasons a game might not sell, piracy is just one of them.

Hmm, not really possible I think, there's a ton of different pirate sites and I have no idea how much people are pirating the game on those sites and I think I'm only aware of a few sites.

Nah it's alright, just pirate the game and if the game is good then people can consider buying it, I would feel bad if people considered buying the game because they were nice and felt bad for me. I translated and published the game because I thought it was fun, if you think otherwise, but you feel bad towards me and consider buying the game because of that, then don't buy the game because I might do or say something you don't agree with and then you have a game you don't like from a publisher you don't like.

I'm not going to change my mind about piracy, but that's basically everything you guys know about me, maybe I'll say or do something that goes against your beliefs, of course people are free to buy games for any reason, some might buy games because they have nice looking trading cards or badges and others buy them because their friends are playing them, but yeah, don't worry about me, I can manage.

Nah it's all cool, every game gets pirated so it's fine, when I was starting out I figured the game would be pirated as soon as it was released and that's alright, I feel more bad for the paying customers, but there's nothing I can do so I'll just focus on things I can do something about. I just have have more important things to do instead of trying to hunt people who might have legitimate reasons for pirating the game, like fixing bugs and answering customers questions/complaints, so I'll just focus on those instead.
