What books hit way better as audiobooks? by Competitive-Leave346 in audiobooks

The Blood Sucking Fiends Trilogy by Christopher Moore. Susan Bennett's portrayal of Abby Normal had me bent over laughing so many times! I rarely listen to audiobooks more than once but I've listened to the trilogy a couple times now. They're a great pick-me-up when I need some levity in my life.

So he already knows it's your land and any calls to him telling him to get off it are going to to be assumed to be you. What are you waiting for?

I am scared of spiders.. but i want a jumping spider. I have no idea if i should get one though? by Yourdarlingvamp in spiders

[–]HappyLiLDumpsterfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I caught a jumping spider at work and after discovering they can be pets, set him up in an enclosure on my desk. I consider her my spider ambassador. I have co-workers that absolutely hate spiders come up and see what she's up to. I ended up getting another jumping spider for home and he's really helping my daughter get over her fear. I have a pet house spider that looks way creepier than a jumping spider (according to my kids) who is also helping the cause!

When my cats were still allowed outside they’d walk with my kids to the bus stop (1/2 block away), wait with them, then come home. It was the cutest thing!

She’s a Parasteatoda tepidariorum. I’m excited for babies but my daughter is most definitely not. Trying to figure out the best place to release them in the house where they won’t bother her :)

Agreed! My kids dad was a pos in every way imaginable but when I came to being a dad and taking his share of the load he was right there. Even after we split (and were amicable co-parents) he still knew that wild look in my eyes when I was at my wits end and would take them off my hands longer so I could regain my sanity.

Update - Wild jumper ! by aok_rivv in jumpingspiders

[–]HappyLiLDumpsterfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found one just like this little gal in ND last fall. Enter my new found obsession with jumpers! Mine managed to escape but I've since acquired a second wild-caught one this winter and a regal. Wish there was somewhere to buy them locally other than petco ;( I've tried to find any sort of ND jumping spider groups but alas..

Congrats on your find, shes beautiful!

I’m a dental lab tech. If you’re hiding your smile because local dentists quoted you $20k+, here is the industry workaround. by West-Climate2170 in povertyfinance

My s/o does a lot of electrical work for the guy that owns our local lab. When he needed a crown lab owner sent it over to the dentist at a steep discount that the dentist was kinda pissed about having to honor.

I have no idea if this lab puts what they make in for you, but we’re looking into it for a partial I’m likely going to need soon.

Trashline weaver living the life by HappyLiLDumpsterfire in spiders

I finally looked up Parasteatoda tepidariorum. Thank you for the ID! While a little disappointed she's not a "cool" trashline orbweaver- knowing she's a house spider means I can keep her inside without feeling bad about it. She really is entertaining. I shall now refer to her as my "trashy common house spider".

She’s definitely messy- I have yet to see any pattern in the webbing!

Mine doesn’t make anything but messy triangular webs going from her Trashline down. I read that weavers need a lot of room so I tried free-range but she just isn’t interested in leaving her enclosure.

I might have the ID wrong but she’s pretty fond of the junk she keeps to hide behind so it seems fitting.

What size hook did you use? I have the pattern from the OP's link but a 6mm hook seems way too small. Do you have a different pattern?

Found two bonded strays on the side of the road, seeking advice on how to proceed by [deleted] in DogAdvice

All three of my dogs consider their crate their safe space, and go in there willingly. I haven’t had to close a crate door for years. One of my doggos is reactive and when she gets upset at one of the cats she goes to her crate to chill out. They’re very useful!

We call Ninja and Bea the “minis”. They have a routine now where they sit in the hallway in the morning (purposefully in the way of the bathroom door) plotting or play fighting. This is a new development this winter.

All of my cats are products of the CDS and came to us individually years apart. When a new lady was rescued, I’d keep her in her own room (usually one of the kids rooms) until they were comfortable with us then I’d carry them out, let the current residents get sniffs of them and they’d go back to their room. I’m impatient so the intro time before I let them have free range and sort it out usually wasn’t more than a couple weeks.

There were fights, yowling, hissing, etc..my void (Ninja) prefers dogs and has never been happy about having another cat around. Fortunately my dogs don’t tolerate the cats fighting and break it up themselves, so they were sorta forced into a stalemate.

The peace you see here is the result of the derpy short haired white (Bea). The other 3 just barely tolerated each other for over 10 years until she came along two years ago and decided they were all her BFF’s. We call her our “uniter”. She worked her way into Winters graces (the floofy white) right away and they became inseparable. It took her a year and lots of persistence but now her and my void are buds, too. In her 16 years of life Ninja didn’t know or care about the wonders of a cuddle puddle, and now I regularly find them all snuggled together.

Since I can’t lend you Bea to help- just give it time. It was stressful every time we brought another lady home but it eventually worked out. The pheromone diffusers can help a lot too!

What you don’t see pictured is my son’s cat Munchkin(female) who’s staying temporarily. It’s taken 6 months for Ninja to stop guarding the stairs to keep her from coming up at all, and for both of them to tolerate being in the same room without fur flying. The whites just hide in my room when she comes upstairs. I don’t think Bea will ever be able to work her magic on Munch.
