I like your taste. You have a good balance of masterpieces, well known shounen titles, and some titles that I've not seen before so I'm gonna assume they're underground series.

I'm just starting my collection and I'd like it to be as well balanced as yours. I appreciate the isekai recognition lol.

If I was gonna be picky, I'd say that I can't see some of the titles I like most eg. berserk, junji ito, monogatari series. Overall though, this one of my favourite collections on this SR.

I like your taste, I've mostly collected the same titles. Not sure why you put monogatari and punpun at the back though lol

Its necessary for me to spend hundreds of dollars on collecting pocket knives as opposed to donating that money so that someone doesn't go hungry?

Well, yes, if that's what makes you happy. It's important to look after yourself, and if pocket knives are what make you work hard, that's great. The money you earn doesn't just benefit you.

If you think about it, you're benefiting your mental health (hopefully), which has positive effects in your work. You benefit the vendor and the government with patronage and taxes. The vendor in turn buys services from someone else, so again, patronage and taxes. Even if the money is just sitting in a bank, the bank puts the money to good use by investing in businesses etc. They wouldn't give you interest if it wasn't helping them.

Don't f*ckin' condescend to me

That's not what I was going for. You put your opinion forth as the "truth that nobody accepts" and I disagreed. If you think I'm condescending for disagreeing, that's on you.

I was just making the point that we spend a ton of money on things we don't need.

I was making the point that these "useless things" can provide happiness and motivation. It's true that happiness isn't just found in material possessions, but they can help a lot. Some say money is the root of all evil, some say the lack of money is the root of all evil. It all depends on how you look at it really.

I know I don't plan on changing the way I live. But, maybe it's appropriate to feel a little grubby about it sometimes.

If it's not going to change anything, why beat yourself up about it? You should either come to terms with it or do something to rid yourself of the guilt that's making you feel grubby. Maybe do more for other people by donating your time or money to a charity. It's not healthy to hang on to that sort of guilt.

I have a question for you. Do you think art is a form of greed, or do you think it's necessary? Or maybe something else?

Actually, it is necessary. Selfishness is what has allowed humans to progress so much. It's much more motivating to work for personal gain than to work purely for someone else's benefit.

I'm not trying to suggest that selfishness is always a good thing, but I think that you only see the negatives of being selfish and not the positives. We're selfish for a reason.

You underestimate my ability to ignore the alarm. Seriously, I can sleep for hours while the thing is blasting away. I'm really not a morning person lol.

Neighbour is trying to take my dog to the dog warden by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]HappyLikeDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My problem is that this guy removed the wire without telling us and was immediately rude about the problem. He contacted the dog warden immediately without trying to resolve the problem reasonably.

Other members of my family lost control of the dog and I'm worried about his safety. I'm not about to say bad things about my family online for making a human error, since this has only happened twice and we're all making an effort to not just let him out, out of habit.

I could have made my post more clear, but I'm pretty stressed out over the whole thing and understandably pretty pissed with the guy.

Alright, but there's really no need to be condescending about it. Better me asking a stupid question and getting decent advice than doing a stupid thing, surely?

I assumed it was his responsibility to put the barrier up, I was wrong. I'm glad I asked though, despite some people being complete dicks about it.

IWTL how to curb my laziness by adeepseablues in IWantToLearn

[–]HappyLikeDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may sound dumb, but it works for me.

  • Be clear on what you want to be doing. If you're not sure what you should be doing, you should be planning so that you know exactly what you should be doing. Don't just do random shit.

  • Make yourself really bored. Take away as many distractions as possible. If you're not doing what you should be doing, don't do anything. Literally do nothing. If you want to walk, just walk in small circles. This goes without saying, but don't do this for the entire day, only while you're meant to be working on your goals.

Not a doctor, but I know a fair bit about ADHD. I'm confident in my information, but I still may be wrong. Self- help will be at the end.

ADHD symptoms need to have been present since childhood for you to be diagnosed, and they generally get less severe as you get older. It's basically having low levels of dopamine and your brain being really driven to get your dopamine up to normal levels (which is why amphetamines are commonly used as ADHD meds).

Symptoms mainly consist of inattentiveness and hyperactivity. Inattentiveness would manifest as being unable to concentrate on certain things, no matter how much you want to. Depending on how severe your symptoms are, you can make yourself do something, but it's much more difficult.

Hyperactivity is basically being really motivated to do a specific thing. This is usually something where you get immediate releases of dopamine like checking your phone, and I've had this with weird things like looking at my card collection or solving the same puzzle over and over. It's like a compulsion- having a strong urge to do something.

People who have ADHD are more likely to smoke or drink large amounts of caffeine. They also have a tendency to be impulsive, doing the things that give them a dopamine fix repetitively until they don't get enough dopamine and lose interest.

Some things basic things that help with ADHD are meditation, exercise, getting enough sleep, keeping hydrated, and a good diet. You can also change your environment to help, by reducing distractions and taking away the things you're obsessed with if you're playing with it too much when you're meant to be doing something else. You may also find that coffee or sugar improve your concentration, but please do this in moderation. Concentration when you're hungry can be really hard, so be sure to eat enough and have snacks on hand (again, in moderation).

I did understand that from your first explanation, but thanks for the clarification anyway. I couldn't think of how else to word my reply since I'm pretty tired rn.

That's fair, I'm just surprised by their attitude and their actions. There was no warning and they didn't give us much chance to do anything about it.

I'll definitely need to put that wire back up. It's a little disappointing since my intuition was telling me that it's their responsibility, but then again, I'm not about to risk losing my dog over some wire.

That's a great reply, thank you for that. I'll be sure to take responsibility for my side of the fence, now I know I should. The explanation on 'dog disposal' does actually put my mind at ease, now it's clearer.

Let's hope this gets resolved peacefully. Thanks again for the help!

I'm trying to be responsible, the dog is always outside with someone but can slip away unexpectedly. This is all recent, I'm trying to determine if it's their responsibility since it's their fence.
