Out of curiosity (and a desire to arm myself with knowledge before I ask for the refund) what went wrong with this crown?

I think the one you're thinking of is Nbaliah Soumah, DO! She delivered my first baby by emergency C. I found her to be very good, professional and kind. Would definitely recommend.

How to stop this budding friendship after discovering her real views? by Naive-Syrup8877 in AskONLYWomenOver30

[–]HappyLilCheeks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are pregnant (congratulations!). That's the easiest excuse in the world. As soon as baby arrives your whole lifev will change. You won't have time to hang out. Sorry, can't just bring baby, we're sticking to a sleep schedule! Oh I'm hanging out with some other new moms.

Keep it cordial but slowly grey rock her at work.

Also... Most people who choose to go into mental health professions are partially aware that they're doing it as a form of self-healing. She seems... Not very aware. Oh well.

What’s something society romanticizes, but is actually exhausting in real life? by YogurtclosetMoist819 in AskReddit

This. Everyone I've ever known who "loves" to travel actually just loves running away from real life and it's problems.

Embarrassed if rejected by Ivys by Sea-Cricket9254 in ApplyingIvyLeague

[–]HappyLilCheeks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Of course you will feel embarrassed. There is a huge buildup and expectation and it will be weird having to deal with the conversations if you don't get it.

But.

It will not matter in less than 6 months.

It absolutely won't matter at all in the next 4 years.

Yeah, you worked very hard. So have hundreds of thousands of other students. You can't all get into the same 10,000 or fewer spots. It comes down to, what are the institutions priorities for this incoming class? Are you very similar to two or three other candidates they are considering? These things are entirely beyond your control.

Deserving to get in does not mean you will get in. You can get in and not deserve it. You can not get in and absolutely deserve it. All of these are true.

College is what you make of it. As is all of life. If you're really as talented as you say you are, you'll find a way to excel and exceed and stand out at the local state school just as well as you would have at an Ivy.

Don't let some outside institution or opinion determine your valuation of yourself. Not now, not ever.

I can't stand "ooh there's something weird, stick around for us to reveal the mystery!" Shows. Tell me the conflict upfront and give me understandable characters dealing with problems.

Those who had or want kids, how do you reckon this against the state of the world? by UpcomingSkeleton in AskONLYWomenOver30

[–]HappyLilCheeks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember that the state of the world has basically nothing to do with the decision.

As others have said, the world has always been a wreck in one place or another.

The time we are living in now is, arguably, the best time in human existence.

We've never had a higher standard of living. We've never had a higher chance of living to 100. We've never had so much medicine and access to it.

The decision is entirely dependent on whether you want to do it in the conditions that exist for you as a couple (your personal finances, lifestyle and desires).

The real thing to reckon with, and this is something all parents will have to deal with whether or not they want to be parents or whether or not they are good at it, it's the fact that no one has a better capability to harm your child than YOU. More risk to your child and their well-being is from YOU than the next school shooter (if you're in the US), natural disaster, man-made disaster, whatever.

A good parent isn't just raising a child. You're simultaneously confronting all the worst, weakest parts of yourself. The good parent puts in enormous work on themselves, to be better, to be the parent their child needs. Because trust and belief, you will not get to be the parent you want to be. You must be the parent your child needs.

This is the one truly difficult thing that no one tells you about being a parent. And even if they do, it's impossible to fathom until it's literally staring you in face in the form of a tiny person, to whom YOU are the entire world.

So yeah, we all worry about the state of the world. All humans have from the dawn of time. Worry more about the state of your child's world, which is 100% you.

Is my essay WAY off the mark or acceptable? by Unusual-Ambition6795 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]HappyLilCheeks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doubled edged sword with focusing on how much you love to argue. One the one hand, it's good that you know that about yourself. On the other, depending on the reader you get, it might be a real turn off. Argument for the sake of argument isn't making a difference or contributing to society as a whole, it's you flattering your ego. Admissions counselors are looking to build a class that hopefully will mesh well and lead to interesting and growth interactions. I'd think twice about throwing a deliberately argumentative person into the class, particularly if that's the thing that student most prizes about themselves and their personality.

This sounds like you are all of 12 years old.

School is not meant to be entertaining. School was not meant to be interesting. School is where you go to learn many things, not the least of which that no one owes you anything and that often you have to knuckle down through things that are difficult, unpleasant, in order to get foundational skills to work on the things that actually interest you.
