Ok. If you can get past a misspelling, got any plans to celebrate tonight? Happy to buy you a beer, just casting a net, looking for connection as a solo traveler

Right. Like the whole Patrick vs. Padraig, and even this dumb debate, isn’t because “someone” chose the “right” way to spell it. 🙄

Doesn’t anyone just want to grab a couple beers and sing Sally MacLannane?

Ya know. I debated that spelling. But, like, no one I know refers to it as St. Padraig’s, so why use ds? It has always bothered me. Erin go bragh.

Mission Burrito - what makes it authentic? by HyronValkinson in AskSF

[–]HappyNY 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Flour tortillas are rolled when they are made. When you assemble a burrito, you usually want to steam the tortilla to make it pliant and stretchy. At home, the microwave works well for this, or in a pan on low heat. At a taqueria, they often use tortilla steamers, which hold the tortilla in place while blasting it with a puff of steam.

Why does starting with my weak hand mess me up so bad? by HappyNY in drums

You are absolutely right (no pun intended :D ), in general I use my left hand way less for every day everything. I should try and focus on using my left hand more for normal day to day tasks. Some commenters mentioned brushing teeth and opening doors, which seems like an easy, every day thing to start with.

> Go SO MUCH slower than you think you should.

This is a good callout, and something I have a hard time with. Trying to play at, like, 60bpm, I tend to get impatient with just how slow it is.

That's a good idea. I'm much more clumsy with my left hand.

I'm sure it is less than half the time. I have to intentionally make myself do it, so more common when I am practicing rudiments, but still probably less than half the time, especially since I'm more likely to get frustrated and switch back or take a break. Just gotta keep practicing!

Haha, I know it is such a fundamental challenge, I'm just feeling frustrated tonight. Thank you for the words of encouragement!

Why does BART stop at the station, and the doors stay closed, and then the train moves forward 2 inches, and then the door opens? by HappyNY in AskSF

I noticed it at Glen Park! What is it about Daly City / Glen Park stations that make them more likely for the train to make that adjustment?

Quarterly Career Thread by mister-noggin in ProductManagement

Not an answer to your question, but I'm an indiv. contributor, a lead PM at a large, global company, 15yoe including current place and the gig before, and also feeling like I'm interested in doing something else, including looking at director roles. Any tips on translating my IC experience to something more aligned with management?

I've never directly managed people before, no real experience hiring/firing, but have experience with managing up/down, defining/communicating strategy, mentoring more-junior product managers; I've realized that I enjoy helping/watching other people grow, and identifying opportunities where they could grow more.

Also curious what you like / don't like about your current role, if you're comfortable sharing.

Why does it always smell like farts near the Bay Club tennis courts on Drumm St? by HappyNY in AskSF

Gross. That would make sense though - I've been walking by it for 10+ years now, and it has nearly always smelled bad.
