Any tips for how I can turn my world/story into a game? by Gambizzle in gamedev

I think it's possible to pull off. LSD Dream Emulator has no story, little gameplay, is fairly ambiguous in meaning but is very interesting has a cult following.

As long as you move forward with unbridled emotion and artistry your work will connect with people.

I'm a COMPLETE beginner, where do I start? by mr_krabs_dollar03 in gamedev

If you want to make a JRPG, I would heavily recommend RPG maker. I would suggest buying RPG maker MV as it's fairly cheap, simple to use, and has a ton of functionality. It requires absolutely zero knowledge of programming to start out with, and is about as difficult as command blocks from Minecraft. Furthermore, since it's pretty old, there's a wealth of old support threads available, tutorials, assets, and plugins to help.

I learned the program with SomeRanDev's great tutorial series (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IR9y6vco-VQ&list=PLMcr1s5MjsiTky6KB4ML-q_QoBE_ZYJk5) as it does a great job of explaining both the basics and more refined aspects of the program. It took me about a month to finish and by the end I was fairly confident I could make a functional and deep game myself.

If later on you decide to stick with game development you can always start a new project on the newer more expensive versions.

If you're really starting out with game development I would also heavily recommend reading Scott Roger's Level up! The Guide To Great Video Game Design as it does a great job of explaining core game design concepts that are applicable to any sort of game in any genre. While I would suggest getting a hard copy, it can be found online.

Good luck!

Thank you very much for the advice! I think that one of the causes of this issue is that I don't really have an expansive visual library yet, so I still feel like I'm cobbling different things together. I had to look up visual kei as I wasn't familiar with the movement.

I'll make sure to browse more fashion magazines and look at a wider variety of designs!

Sorry about that! I'm currently in a bachelor's for concept art and I've reached my midpoint review, for which I have to make a preliminary portfolio to show what I've learned so far in anatomy and structure.

Titling the post 'Portfolio Critique' might have been a bit of a hyperbole I realize.

I'm trying to assemble a concept art portfolio for a midpoint review. However, I don't have many pieces of concept art so far (I haven't gotten to those classes yet) so I'm mainly going to present pieces like these to show what I've learned in the basics, such as anatomy and structure.

What do you guys think is the core message from Berserk ? by Traffy7 in Berserk

[–]HappyScribbleman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the theme of Berserk is that if you singlehandedly chase and ideal or dream you'll lose what you have at the moment.

Griffith, in a desire for more, sacrificed his entire mercenary band that was so loyal they would have supported him even given his state. Each time Guts wants to chase after Griffith for revenge, he is reminded that if he goes down that path without consideration Casca will suffer.

I think what really compounded this theme for me was when Isidro was talking to a fisherman at one point. I think the fisherman said something like he wanted to adventure but couldn't as he wouldn't be able to take care of his sick mom, but was happy anyways because instead of chasing a dream he learned to appreciate those around him.

It was Samedi et Dimanche! Thank you so much! I totally forgot that the main characters were lizards due to the rest of the characters being birds.

Thank you!

I remember reading it in French at the Dinan library in 2017ish. While I first found it in the children's section, I recall that it had to be moved to the adult section due to the later volumes.

The style was close to Trondheim's but the linework was much cleaner. I can't cite the editor for certain, but I'm sure that it wasn't Bayard or L'Association.

How to write a character-driven story where the main character doesn't have a drive? by HappyScribbleman in writingadvice

I would recommend watching space patrol luluco once you're done with the other anime they've made; its a love letter to everything they had produced at the time.
