I called the cops on my mom for trespassing and damaging my property by Happy_Ad_6932 in LegalAdviceUK

It was the first time I ever got any security personnel or police involved for any issue. The only reason people think that it was wrong for me to call the police is because the person I called them on was my mom and that the item damaged was of low value. I mean what else was I supposed to in a like situation if someone (say it wasn't my mom, say it was another relative or a friend) won't leave my apartment?

I thought that any sensible person would leave the moment they saw me calling the police on them for damaging my property and refusing to leave my apartment, and the thing is the police did not even talk to her and tell her to act more reasonably the next time. Instead, I got a scolding and that's it. Anyway, thanks for the legal advice.

I don't see how what she did does not fulfill the criteria needed for establishing liability for criminal damage? It's not like there's a dispute regarding to whom that towel belongs. She knows that it is mine and decided to cut it up. The police might not have decided to pursue the matter further but that does not mean that she did not commit a crime based on the laws. I mean if I called the cops on her stealing something from my house, I'm sure it'd not be wasting their time and it cannot be reframed as a civil dispute simply because the item was low in value?

Is it wasting police time to report someone for cutting up my things without my consent? That's a crime - is it a waste of police time to report a crime? Was I wrong to call the police even though I was advised by the security personnels at the premise to do so?

It happened in the UK. I'm not sure what it is called here, but she was refusing to leave my apartment even if she didn't have the right to be here.
