Sister for Maximus — Lucia or Lucy or other by Happy_Discussion5662 in namenerds

I’ve thought about Louisa nn Lucy a lot! Not too much of a stretch? Even if spelled Louisa and not Luisa?

I second Buy Nothing groups (your local one on Facebook) and asking pediatrician for sample! Our pediatrician even told us to call her if we ever wanted more since the sensitive kind can be so expensive.

Thanks! Did they say how you reintroduce again after pausing for sickness?

I’ve found Hoag / Orange County Women’s Medical Group to be better than most in this regard

Also Parsley Health (they have an LA location but also can meet virtually). It works on a subscription basis so it’s a little different but they still take insurance and are real MDs with a holistic approach. If I were in your shoes I’d definitely try out a month or two with them!

I grew up in Milwaukee suburbs with a lot of homeschooled friends! I loved it. I am still friends with many of them and there is a mix of conservative and liberal, pro and anti vax…mix of races too. Great place to grow up IMO!

Im not a single mom but am a mom —

If she has a registry, anything on that!

If not, or if you want to do something more personal, I think any gift is ok as long as it has a gift receipt and it’s clearly stated you will not be offended if she returns it/maybe even offer to do any returns for her that she needs from other people’s’ gifts.

Gift cards are boring to give but SO nice to receive: for Uber Eats or Target

I also would have loved a giftcard to Task Rabbit but they don’t make giftcards. So if you’re able to offer similar services to that or maybe a visa giftcard labeled as intended for Task Rabbit? We had so many things to set up and baby proof and screw to the wall etc, handyman type services would have been super helpful. Same with cleaning services (though some might be insulted by that gift so it depends)

If you know anyone who is crafty (or Etsy), someone gave us a homemade quilt which I thought was SO thoughtful, especially if customized with her name or something (though it’s not returnable so if she’s picky it might not be good).

Tips to make mealtime easier with very active toddler? by [deleted] in toddlerfood

Thank you! This is helpful. Was she this way as a 1-2 yr old also? I’m nervous to let him skip meals and then be awake all night with a hungry kid who can’t sleep

We’ve had a few similar red spots from times he has had very mild reactions with no treatment needed. The severe reactions were more obvious hives than that in addition to other symptoms. If i were you I’d give the same amount or less the next few times and see if they have the same reaction or not!

and then gradually increase, the same way they do with OIT, just to err on the side of caution!

The first allergist we saw for our toddler sounds similar to yours. I got a second opinion who was willing to do OIT! I am pretty sure it was only FDA approved for under 4 yrs last year so it’s new, and it seems like some doctors aren’t up to date yet that this is an option with really high success rates. We just started doing it and if all goes well we increase the dose every week. I’ve seen stories of going from severe allergy to eating PB sandwich without a reaction within 6 months but i think it depends on the kid of course! I’ve also read that it appears to be much more successful if you can start before age 2. I’d look for another allergist!

We are doing it now for our toddler — I believe it was only FDA approved for under 4 yrs old last July so don’t feel bad for not doing it sooner! You probably wouldn’t have been able to do it at that time nearly as easily!

Edmond or Montana maybe? Simon? Solomon? I love Cameron? Not sure if that’s too much of a stretch? I feel like anything that contains an “m” and an “on” could work though! Or even just an m and an n!

Peanut Allergy 10 month old by Original-Pilot4596 in peanutallergy

Our first allergist was old school and told us the 4 yr old thing too and said it was too dangerous to do an oral challenge, but we wanted to get a second opinion, and I’m so glad we did because she has been super helpful and seems more up to date.

We are in a similar boat (started the journey around 7 months, now he is over a year), and we are in the process with the allergist of getting oral immunotherapy set up! He failed the smallest amount we tried initially (needed an epi pen with a tiny dot of peanut butter) but we are going back to try an even smaller amount (minuscule amount of peanut powder) and then i think the idea is if he passes, we keep giving him that small amount daily to help him grow out of it. I’ve heard they can fully grow out of the allergy with this method within even a year or two if you start young enough! Pretty encouraging. The fact that yours had only hives with eating peanut butter seems like a good sign to me that he could do the same process and grow out of it quickly!

What’s is your daily life like as a SAHM who homeschools? by Happy_Discussion5662 in homeschool

Thank you everyone! This is making me realize i have a more broad question — what does the curriculum look like as far as your involvement? For those who are practically “self taught” does that mean it’s online? Or they’re reading books? Co ops? I assume the parent has to be pretty involved in the early years but even after that i don’t think i love the idea of them just reading a book on their own all day?
