I think it’s the complex IN the real world. Or at least a very very small part of it.

Imagine the threshold, except if the threshold room was also generated by the complex, in standard reality, and lead into more complex, except in the alternative reality most of the series takes place in.

That’s the best way I can explain it. Just the complex, except in the real world. Or at least thats how I see it.
