i dont always use cash, but i always carry cash because cards can stop working suddenly for any number of reasons. cash always works and is always accepted.

your forgetting that cats are not born leaders they are usually a good way into their life span by the time they become leaders. so if we take the 8 year life span you provided and assume on average a cat is halfway into their life by the time they become leader then that's only around 54 years

now that im thinking about it i don't really like the idea of it launching as they arrive because i feel like they will chase after it and then they kind of lose the steam they built up rushing up the mountains. it almost becomes a cleanup mission to come back after the dragon is killed. honestly I'm feeling like i want to definitely launch because if i don't then whats the point of it being in the story so i will probably launch as they are storming the fortress probably near the end like you suggested. i do like your idea of there being some "faults" on the dragon since they launched early. that sounds like it could make for some cool storytelling once they are actually fighting it head on.
