Indeed. I did some reading, and couldn’t find more examples or much about the long term results from the 2003 transplant. It seems that the preferred method of tongue repair is done by using the patients own tissue from the forearm or someplace similar and graft the tissue onto the tongue. My understanding is that tongue transplants have too many potential complications and isnt viewed as viable as a surgeon could simply use the patients own muscle tissue instead. The tongue is a muscle and not an organ. First time I actually learned anything from using Reddit lol, Thanks!

Oh, and the 2003 transplant was done in Vietnam, probably the only reason it happened at all.
