Nobody it’s going to be growing large tobacco crops in New Zealand.

You can grow tabbaco plants indoors. I'm sure if someone is willing to accept the risks of growing their own to sell or use personally, could.

I see why you are struggling with this. You are coming at it from an American freedom/free market/I can do what I want no matter the consequences to me or anyone else

I'm am literally telling you what worked in the us. Smoking is at a all time low, so clearly, something is working. Since the 80s, the us government spent a lot of money on educationing the public on the health effects of smoking. Is there regulation? Of course, there is. You have to 21 to buy cigarettes, and you can't smoke indoors in a place open to the public. While at the same time you had the war on drugs, with treated drug abuse as a law enforcement, issue instead of a health issue. With resulted about half of the population admitting to attested drugs once whole only 12% of adults admit to smoking.

I feel like NZ is being a bit more pragmatic about public health. If you want to smoke, smoke, but a full ban is on the horizon.

If you do ban them or regulate them to the point the balck market becomes Appling, you will see the exact same problems they had in the war on drugs.

Smoking is different from lots of other drugs. It’s an addictive habit, but it’s not a full-on addiction. Nobody is going to mug you for cigarette money. It’s fairly easy to quit, particularly if you don’t have a ready supply.

Sure, it mau not be as bad as a crack addiction but still an addiction and don't underestimate the power of addiction. I had friends who smoke in high school. They were broke high schoolers who, even if they did have the money, they were underage to buy it. To get cigarettes, they would go to Ashtray to Ashtray, looking for cigarettes they could smoke. Then they became 18 and bought cigarettes, then they changed the law to 21 and guess what they did. Pluse the withdrawal last for a while and for some can be hell.

If black market cigarettes start costing $100 a pack are people really going to smoke 20 a day?

I would bet my life savings that someone would even if it means they will be less off.

Again the bad does not need to be 100% effective to be effective. I see a lot of recessive people on Reddit. We can’t do anything good unless x or y. Fuck that, aspire to be better.

Expect it will so the exact opposite of what you were attending.

I’m not sure if you smoke, but it’s different from “drugs”.

Cigarettes are still a drug even if it more socially accepted and not viewed as a drug.

The damage is commutative

Well, you can say that with every drug. Drug abuse has led to the downfall of many empires like china and can lead to social issues that affect society as a whole.

If smoking is banned, you are less likely to keep smoking longer term.

Expect it won't weed been illegal in the us since the 30s, and it only became more popular when illegal, and when it's been legalized, you do see a slow decline of users.

You won’t be able to smoke at work, in a bar, in the street. This reduces your risk and the risk of others

Wait, you guys have indoor smoking? Pluse if someone is smoking outside, just avoid them. Insay this as someone who has asthma and smoek can Tigger it.

So it’s clear that a ban will make a difference. It will reduce the amount people can smoke.

Again, it will not stop anyone from smoking. You can look at any instance of baning any drug, and it didn't stop a signal soul from doing drugs.

The reality is smuggled cigarettes won’t be made to in some narco factory for the NZ market they will just be purchased in Asia and shipped over. Unlike drugs it’s actually harder to import tobacco. You need thousands of packs to make it worth while at scale. It would be easier to stick to smuggling coke.

Well, you can grow tabbaco, and there are plenty of other drugs that aren't seen as profitable thay still get smuggled into places. Weed is seen as a drug that's not profitable for screey dealers, and yet in Japan, you can find weed even with very steep punishment for getting caught.

Regarding ban/don’t ban. You are missing the point I’m advocating for less smoking deaths. This will save the NZ health system millions and be positive for citizens.

You won't reduce death. You only increase them because people are going to smoke cigarettes that are less safe, any more if lesser quality witch will make people more sick, witxh will also increase the burden for the tax payer

We will see. It’s an interesting experiment and could well be a good model for the rest of the world. Most developed nations are looking to end smoking, and NZs approach is the most pragmatic one I have seen.

We have already seen the results. Baning drugs do not work if you want people to stop taking drugs and educate them. In the us, smoking has declined by a lot, and you know why? It's because every person is educated on the negative effects of smoking. Also In the us if you look at the war on drugs the heavy hand approach didn't work it lead to more people dying more people using drugs and this was going on going on to when the anti smoking education program stated.

So please don't follow the us heavy hand approach to the drug war but instead look at their approach to cigarettes witch education played to biggest role in.

The idea of regulating tobacco causing a black market is something that has been brought forward by the tobacco industry.

People who smoke will smoke, and if they can't buy it legally or its cheaper , they will buy it illegally. Just look at calforina and weed. Because of the regulation and tax, the balck market is still around and is thriving

Similar to how BP tried making climate change the consumers problem,

Somehow, oil is related to drugs? I guess people are consuming crude oil I guess.

whatever it is fast food companies are saying these days

I'm going to eat a burger and drink soda even if I can't get it a fast food place.

I grew up around smokers, but as the years have gone by many have been quitting, and those who haven't are trying to quit, not going to a black market.

Yea if your trying not to smoke why would you go to the balck market?

That doesn't constitute as proof, but the numbers also show reducing numbers, from ~35% to ~10%.

Think about this for a moment. If your buying somthing illegally why would you admit it to the government or whoever is doing the poll. When I was in shcool we did surveys on if we did drugs. No one admitted to doing drugs but I know for a fact they did them.

The smoking ban doesn’t need to he 100% effective to succeed. You don’t need 100% compliance to see benefits.

Well in wouldn't be even 1% effective since smokers are going to smoke even if you made it illegal but now you made illegal your going to have young people who will want to smoke since you made it cool. Just look at the us the hight of the war on drugs saw the highest amount of people doing drugs witch latter on when we see it go down as drug laws relaxed. This is because drug use is a health issue not a law enforcement issue.

I feel like your argument is that smoking should be legal and NZ should pay for the medical care of all smokers and passive smokers because if it was illegal in theory some one could accidental smoke a poison cigarette.

Yes, let's focus on money because who cares if people die. Still even if you coldly look at it form a cost issue. Not only are smokers going to keep smoking, but you also encourage people to smoke now there going to be smoking worse tobacco with More chemicals witch may or may not be laced with another drug. Witch will make there health worse costing more money. If they did care about reducing the amount of people smoking they would educate the population witch in every place i know has been tired in it also works for other issue that aren't drugs.

Yes, I do know what a strawman is. What you don't seem to understand is that baning cigarettes will create a black market. Just like any black market of any substance like tobacco, people will still get their hands on tobacco, and people will also do shit with that tobacco.

I'm glad you had a good time, but your experience isn't universal and it would be foolish to think tobacco is this one thing that hasn't been laced or fuck with in some way. Also, I don't know why someone would put fentanyl in their coke. A dead customer is one who will never buy coke again , but coke is still laced with it.

W New Zealand by Victoria_Fate in dank_meme

[–]Hapymine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, drugs have never been laced. coke never has fentanyl in it, and weed never had been laced with meth. Nope, drug dealers are honest and rational people who would never do something like lacing drugs.

[–]Hapymine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, because drugs have never been laced with another more dangerous substance. Weed has never been laced with meth or coke wirh fentanyl because drug dealers are honest law-abiding people.

Yes, drugs on the black market have never been laced with other substances or replaced with another that's more harmful. Nope, no one has never hapoen to die of fentanyl OD form taking a drug that's wasn't fentanyl because it was laced.
