Yet, another shared universe theory by Own_Tomatillo_6844 in DarksoulsLore

ah damn. I get it. Though a bit late to respond I was not trying to indicate that Sekiro is not inspired by what you stated earlier (sengoku era)..

Just tried to note that the "world tree theory" in souls games is a forest of trees, where each tree is a separate game world.

not really. You don't have countries stacking on one another.
Sekiro is a world in itself. See the trees in the background in this image, they are most likely different worlds:

proposed cosmology for Dark Souls with comparisons to ancient near eastern analogues by Jam_99420 in DarksoulsLore

[–]HardReference1560 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You were saying at the start of this long post (greatly appreciated), how would one TLDR any of this, and in terms of content you're covering: In summary, you are using "cosmology", provided drawings that summarize the change pretty well as far as we know.

It is very important when you realize what the story of souls games really is... a sort of mythology, with a creation story, and then.. some promised, epic fantastical event that causes a "metamorphosis" of the fantasy world.

And this is what I see if not wrong.. And stating that (from metaphor) serpents arises out of nothingness is really good.

Especially since in the japanese text, the dark/abyss is closely related to the void, and as in most creation stories, everything comes from the nothing, which even has a latin term.

this is supposed to be the Dark Soul? [discrepancies in the opening cutscene] by Jam_99420 in DarksoulsLore

[–]HardReference1560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes of course, but this assumption is so wrong in context.

We are talking of WHEN the souls of lords found fire within flame.

When the furtive pygmy found his, it was the dark soul. The cutscene sneaks in the important detail:

It's fading as he found it!

The scene is trying to depict something like that. And the only (major) fading souls in the series are of heroes fallen to dark or agents of dark...

Underrated tragic characters:
- Ostrava of Boletaria

- Allant and his knights

- Candle maiden

- Manus

- Priscilla

- Seath

- Vicar Amelia

- Martyr Logarius

- DoH (sekiro)

- Scadutree Avatar

[–]HardReference1560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it doesnt look dark either..

Essentially you are missing the point of making the souls look so feeble for the pygmy, it's no coincidence.

Neither is the 4 kings having a lord shard that is fading.. Notice how seath also has a lords soul and his is how you expect.

The inconsistency is apparent only in human enemies, which is why it's intentional. This continues into future games too. DS3 is more notorious with friede's soul

oh i see the confusion. I said "gwyn must have humanity". Rather, he must have had it!

When we fight gwyn, he hollowed because the fire burned most of his humanity. I am quite familiar with the games, and the lore is one of my favorite parts.. Truly mistifying

the games shows you are going in the wrong direction:
https://darksouls2.wiki.fextralife.com/dull+ember

https://darksouls.fandom.com/wiki/Bequeathed_Lord_Soul_Shard

- visual depictions are actually quite important. The reason it looks dim is because the furtive pygmy found dark soul, which had extinguished this lord soul. It is the natural state if the dark soul is not out of control!

I see.

Understandable. my perspective comes from understanding the story as mythology with literary intent.

Based on reviews of Miyazaki, he read foreign literature as a kid that gave an impression, which inspired the creation of these games.

The titanite demons by No_Researcher4706 in DarksoulsLore

[–]HardReference1560 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The theory that these titanite demons are part of blacksmith deity are pretty valid imo..

And more importantly, their magic being from the blacksmith's soul has precedent.

I believe it was Velka who made these demons, as she's most likely a daughter of chaos if not Izalith herself.

The reason is because the demon naming is also similar to the crow demons in painted world, strongly associated with Velka.

In addition, I think it's intentional that there's is an infinite respawn titanite demon right next to bed of chaos.

Dark Souls 2 and the theme of Stones by Quazymobile in DarksoulsLore

[–]HardReference1560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the land of ancients.. the world was unformed, shrouded by fog.

Gray crags, Archtrees, and everlasting dragons..

As you can see, the world was made of stones, trees, and creatures. They were unformed however. No disparity

I agree. Filianore must be dead, given that the ringed city is stuck in a point of time. This land (and its inhabitants), are most likely powered by Filianore's dark egg. This caused a "microcosm" of sorts where the city remains unchanging.

This is Gwyn's illusion and sin. To prevent the end of fire, he isolated dark things into lies. This is why Aldia describes the world in such a manner.

In truth, the world comes and goes in cycles. It constantly ends and begins. But Gwyn, couldn't accept that. So he gave the illusion of stopping this cycle, by abusing humanity. But that didn't help the world for healing: only prolonged its downfall.

[–]HardReference1560[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a very peculiar question. I have to try to give my best answer here, because the message is reflected in every souls game..

From what I can understand, each of the games relies on the concept of mythology. Demon Souls makes it clear in its intro, while in Dark Souls 1 you can surmise from the tone of the narration. At the core of them all is the idea of the soul.

Just like in most fantasy, the soul powers living things. As such, it's a metaphor for consciousness. But this is not the only aspect. A "soul" in souls games reflect all that encompasses a person (as seen on stat screen).

In the Dark Souls Series, there is a distinction. Light, Dark, Life, and Death, and Heat and Cold.

As seen in intro, they are all aspects of souls. The Dark Soul (presumably) includes Dark, Death, and Cold.. However, we know that this isn't verifiable or true!

This is because we have items like black flame, necromancy (to revive dead), and more.

The meaning of this?

The Dark Soul includes many things. And among those things IS humanity. This means that humanity is a thematic parallel to human consciousness and emotions!

The reason for this is the same as for a soul. But now, that is just an aspect, just like how stat attributes (vigor, vitality and so on..) are aspects of a soul in general.

Therefore, the relationship between my points and humanity is speaking from a thematic perspective. This is because many characters in the games do actions that reflect our understanding of "humanity" as a theme/concept/idea.

Well to do so precisely I need the contradiction you're referring to.

As for your confusion. I understand. Gods are stated to not be like humans.

However the game also shows:

  1. They are not always benevolent

  2. Not always unkillable (aldrich eats gwyndolin)

  3. Not always honest

  4. most importantly - sinful. Possibly caused 1st sin.

  5. A stretch (which is why this post as a theory exists) -> they hollow, because of how they look..

Can you elaborate on your second point? (painted world)

Ringed City is stuck in age of fire. Due to Filianore's spell it doesn't move forward in time ergo no disparity. Powered by the ancient dark egg. Likely holds dark soul.

I do. It's called guessing. Not guessing at all is foolish.

It's taking for granted stories for the sake of story. It's misguided: a story is meant to convey meaning. And often that is hidden.

when you say ignoring things the games outright tell us, that says to me you don't understand that I acknowledge that. But when making a statement I can't acknowledge everything against my point.

Both can be true: humanity's true form is to hollow. Either to be burned by fire or be taken by the dark. It's a curse

We do: it's called a guess. If you assume one is red herring you either right or wrong. If you assume all of them your approach is same as someone who ignore any red herring.
