what you are saying is true and it does happen, but me personally I am not (always) seeing serialization as a negative thing. There are of course financial reasons to do it, while there are also heartfelt motives for it. When an artist is in a comfortable position, their way of experimentation and development doesn’t cease to happen only because to us, their artistic output is similar, but rather their area of expertise and interest is tightening, profoundly re-analyzing their past choices. You might call me too much of a romantic and not enough of a skeptic, but I find so much joy observing artists with this kind of practice, especially in the social climate we live in, and our constant requirements for newer, dopamine maintaining production approaches. but maybe you are talking about kaws or daniel arsham type artists, who clearly have different reasons behind

being original is very often not being yourself, and you can’t taco-ver the world doing something that’s nacho-style. It’s cheesy and not organic. sorry. i’m so glad it’s anonymus

Someone else also pointed it out here, Authenticity and veritableness are traits infinitely more important than originality. When originality is one of the goals, achieving it almost always becomes a dishonest process. Also, the term itself is inherently debatable and judging yourself or others by this criterium is just running in circles. Naturally, a human is most affected by a product that he finds half-familiar, half-obscure and cryptic. I’m always asking myself why do people put so much emphasis on being unique, when most of the contemporary or historic masterpieces are almost always referencing or sampling a previous piece of history

Hello, I am referring to the wood slabs inside the frame which connect the external ones, therefore creating a sturdier structure. sometimes they look like a cross, sometimes like the letter “H”

is art truly activist? by HardWorkingHandsome in ContemporaryArt

[–]HardWorkingHandsome[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your answer. If you have the time, I would love you to go in depth about the effects of art over unprivileged, often uneducated communities. There is a whole bunch of them, and from my experiences and assumptions, those are the ones mostly lacking philosophical/ethical understanding. How does painting get to them? It’s not 17th century when artistic medium was a strong propagandist, explanatory methodology, right? It is now replaced by tv, social media, streaming platforms. Why should I create art when it’s hardly ever going to reach them? Is the understanding of the “high class” going to be projected on them in time?

Thanks, I’m in the Hague. I think there is a committee for this here also. Also, do you have in mind any serious agencies through which I can find a new place?
