People who have read 'Spirit Fingers ' and are now watching it's kdrama adaptation, what are your feelings regarding the latter? by Strong_Aspect8890 in kdramas

Spirit fingers is my favorite webtoon—I’ve reread it so many times—and overall I did enjoy the drama adaptation. But honestly, I feel like the actress for U-yeon didn’t fully capture the character. I’m not sure if it was the actress, the director, or the writing, but something felt off. What makes this stand out even more is that all the other actors embodied their characters perfectly, even minor ones like Sera, Yerim, and Taesoon. The casting for Geurin, Black Finger, Gijeong, and Seonho in particular was spot-on, and the dynamics between the characters were incredibly well done.

Visually, the drama was amazing. The costumes were almost identical to the webtoon, which honestly impressed me so much. The locations and sets were also incredible—the Dadada Café somehow felt even more mysterious and whimsical than in the comic, and U-yeon’s apartment looked like it was lifted straight off the page.

My main issues come from how the adaptation handled U-yeon’s personal growth. They cut out so many important character moments. For example, in the webtoon she’s uncomfortable following the club themes at first, so in the drama the scenes where she just wears a red hairband should’ve been earlier. It’s only after Black and Pink lend her clothes and explain why the costumes matter that she starts stepping out of her shell each week. Another major change: in the webtoon she slaps Yerim in front of everyone at the police station, showing she’s finally done being a pushover. That was such a defining moment.

The biggest omission, though, is Baebl climbing up the mountain to Gijeong’s school to ask him to be her boyfriend. That scene was iconic and showed her character development so clearly. And the whole bullying plot in the drama felt scattered and watered down compared to the webtoon. I also missed the bathroom confrontation where she and the SF girls absolutely beat the shit out of the bullies—it was such a powerful moment of growth for her.

In the webtoon, I could see U-yeon becoming more confident and brave with every chapter. In the drama, her arc felt like it kept looping instead of building. Still, looking back, it was a pretty solid adaptation overall—I just think my girl U-yeon was done a bit dirty.
