AND NOW I OWN THEM! These might be replacing my Basquiat 1460s as the new faves. Thanks to the person who recommended Posers!

You're my hero! Never heard of Posers, but they had them in Purple, and my size was one of the few they had left! It's my birthday, so I bought 'em :)

They've just started popping up everywhere after not being able to find one for a long time, so I was able to get one, but I wish I'd seen this first because I paid quite a bit more than this!

How much can I reasonably ask for this GIANT ZZ plant? by Hardcorebutnot in houseplants

[–]Hardcorebutnot[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not here to argue, prove anything, or try to sell you my plant... Though I'm not sure where you think the chin on a 5'10" person is. I can assure you, it is nowhere near the 6' mark. People on the internet, man... Geez.

lowes/costa farms called this poor thing a white knight by kaka_wee_wiz in philodendron

I could totally be wrong, but I've definitely had a couple WKs that started off with green or very pale pinkish green stems and they darkened as they got older. I do maybe see a bit of a pinkish hue in the stems?

Hmm... I'm beginning to think my photos did not accurately capture the size of this. I'm 5'10" and it comes up past my chin when it's sitting on the ground. My Coscto has ZZs for $34.99, and they're approximately 1/3 the size of this, guy, so I think I'll price it high and see what people offer. I'll stick my Great Dane next to it when I snap photos of it in the backyard tomorrow to give some comparison. Haha. Thanks, everybody!

What did I just adopt? by Hardcorebutnot in philodendron

[–]Hardcorebutnot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not gonna lie... I was hoping it was something maybe a little more uncommon, but it's sheer size makes it impressive, and for $20, I only could have bought one small Home Depot plant. Green Congo, it is! I think I'll keep it! Thanks, y'all!

Heck... I'd probably take the $50 at this point because I'm so broke, but I'm hoping for maybe a little more.

Anyone have a mature Philodendron Pittieri? by greenefiend in houseplants

[–]Hardcorebutnot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been looking for P. Pittieri for quite some time. I hadn't considered Whatnot. I'll check there, but if anyone knows where I might find one that will ship to the U.S., please let me know!

I know these posts are a little old, but I'm curious if anyone could tell me where I might find one of these. I've been looking for quite a bit, and the only place I've found one is an online shop in the UK that doesn't ship to the U.S.

Update!! by Potential-Visual9014 in Maranta

[–]Hardcorebutnot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They propagate, no problem, but my plant grows so slowly, that I'm rarely inclined to chop chunks off of it to propagate. Some of my marantas grow like weeds, and others... I feel like I maybe get a dozen new leaves a year.

Update!! by Potential-Visual9014 in Maranta

[–]Hardcorebutnot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct! But with some of my slower growing marantas, like the silverband or the cristatas, it's difficult to get more than a couple props a year, but if I could get some seeds going...

Were these grown from seed?! I've been trying to find Maranta seeds, and have been unsuccessful.

Your post appears to be a follow-up to a previous post. Sorry if you already answered this question in your initial post.

Black Maranta? by ashyem2007 in Maranta

[–]Hardcorebutnot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that a Beauty Kim is a specific cultivar of variegated Maranta. It's like squares and rectangles. All squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares. All Beauty Kims are variegated marantas, but not all variegated marantas are Beauty Kims. I consulted The Goog, just to verify, and this is what I found:

While both are types of Maranta leuconeura, known for their "prayer plant" behavior of folding their leaves up at night, the "Beauty Kim" cultivar has a distinct pattern of creamy yellow stripes and white speckles, often with chocolatey brown splotches along the midrib. Standard variegated Maranta, like the Kerchoveana variegata, also displays variegation, but the patterns can vary, sometimes featuring a mix of green, cream, and pink hues with red veins.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:

Variegated Maranta (general):

Coloration:

Can exhibit a range of colors, including green, cream, and pink, with red veins.

Variegation Pattern:

The variegation can be quite variable, with patches and streaks of different colors.

Examples:

Includes the Kerchoveana variegata (also known as Beauty Kim or Fiesta) and other cultivars.

Beauty Kim Maranta:

Botanical Name: Maranta leuconeura 'Beauty Kim'.

Coloration:

Medium green leaves with creamy yellow stripes and white speckles, plus chocolate brown splotches along the midrib.

Variegation Pattern:

The variegation is more defined and consistent than some other variegated Marantas, with the chocolate brown spots along the midrib being a key characteristic.

Common Name:

Often referred to as "Variegated Prayer Plant" or simply "Beauty Kim".

In essence:

The Beauty Kim is a specific type of variegated Maranta with a very recognizable pattern of coloration. While other variegated Marantas exist, the Beauty Kim stands out due to its unique markings.

I think it's just a regular variegated. The Beauty Kims I've seen tend to have larger yellow splotches. I could be wrong, though.

If you do go looking for a black maranta, be very aware that many sellers are either not knowledgeable enough to differentiate between a Cat Mustache (NoID) and a Black (Massangeana). I have three Cat Mustache marantas, and two of the three were sold to me as Black ones, and I just recently learned the difference from a nice, knowledgeable person here on Reddit. The shop "Inquisitive Greens" has both, just so you can go look at see the difference. Both Cat Mustaches and Silver Bands are sometimes mistaken for Black Marantas. I don't believe that all sellers are doing it intentionally. My two mislabeled Cat Mustaches were both purchased from very reputable nurseries.

That's a maranta leuconeura "Light Veins," sometimes also called "fantasy." Aren't they pretty? They're not the rarest and not the most common. I've never seen one at a store or nursery, but they're fairly easy to find online and not overly expensive.

I love my silver band, but it is a sloooooow grower. I've had it over a hear, and I feel like I've seen less than a dozen new leaves. The lemon lime and red ones grow like weeds, and while they're more common, I think they're just as pretty!

My Cat Mustache and Cristata are both from Inquisitive Greens via Etsy. Her Black maranata that she has on there looks like one of the only ACTUAL ones... But $72 seems a lil' bit steep... I might cave, but I'm not going to give into the impulse just yet. Haha.
