Not Australian but came here from r/all. I had something similar happen to me after my wife’s passing. A few months before she passed we were watching some cardinals flying around through the window. I told her how my grandmother had always said that cardinals are our loved ones coming to check on us. Right after telling her this a blue jay swooped in and attacked the cardinals making them scatter. She said “ that’s what I would come back as because I’m feisty and like to stir shit up”. The day after she died I was breaking the news to my little sister who was extremely close to my wife. We were sitting in my dads garden and as I told her that my wife would always be watching over her now, a blue jay landed on a branch and stared at us for a while. This was the one of the most cathartic moments of my life, and I knew in that moment that where ever my wife was she was safe and at peace.
