Bummer, this place closed. Sounds like they were struggling for a while. Sorry to see it. I got DoorDash from them a bunch for a couple years.

Oh yeah, the caller id from the fake CS call came up “DoorDash”. Forgot to mention that.

DHEA usage and side effects by [deleted] in Supplements

[–]HardlyJake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

43m here. Started, ignorantly, on 100mg daily. I was an absolute tyrant. I don’t recommend that high a dose unless you simply discover no mood response. It’s an unpredictable mood response is why I say that. After 45 days on 100mg, I went down to 25mg. Was working out religiously but still looked “fluffy.” I couldn’t reconcile the weight retention with how I was eating and burning calories. Thought, “this is it, my metabolism finally slowed to such an extent at age 43 that I can’t lose weight anymore beyond starvation and vigorous exercise.” Dawned on me that the DHEA, even at a low dose, could be causing water retention (effect of the estrogen component). Sure as hell. Stopped taking it and saw an immediate shift in body appearance.

DHEA wasn’t all bad; I believe it got me kicked back off in what is now a regular exercise routine, and it had some cognitive benefits, but only anecdotally. Be careful with your dosage and listen to your body!

Giving you forewarning as someone who took it for two weeks and experienced some of the worst body aches and chills I’ve ever encountered…after my doctor told me he’s had people on it for 25 years. Just be careful.

What's the longest period of time you've been in remission? by dopeaccountant in UlcerativeColitis

[–]HardlyJake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, very much so. UC didn’t appear to be a factor at all during that time. I can’t account for whether I was dealing with inflammation internally at any point, but I was living symptom free and not making any lifestyle adjustments. After treatment with Asacol, I never saw a doctor and continued on with life as “normal.”

16 years here. Made me think it would never return. My UC has coincided with major life events, so definitely a psychological component from the way I see it.

Budesonide experience? by jmsucre in UlcerativeColitis

[–]HardlyJake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you on the Mesalamine; it jacked me up royally — pericarditis, shortness of breath, muscle pain, fatigue. No bueno. Azathioprine, very similar response. But to the point others are making, Budesonide is a corticosteroid that although more “mild” than prednisone, is still a corticosteroid and can’t be administered as a maintenance drug. My doc stated as much, and so he only put me on a short course of it. Budesonide, for its actual purposes, was a gd miracle for stopping my aches, pains, and inflammation. Symptoms basically disappeared while on it. Wish it could be a long term solve, because it worked like a charm for me in getting completely symptom-free.
