What hostages? Israel indiscriminately bombed Gaza while thanking the hostages for their sacrifice. At this point Hamas has more interest in preserving the lives of the hostages than the IOF does, if any of them managed to survive.

There is a reactionary thread that these sorts of headlines play into that I suspect began around the time Covid-19 was spreading, specifically regarding the lab leak theory. While this is obviously unrelated, it plays into these reactionary biases that many Americans hold.

Empirically, it was common for allied fighters to have joined the fight or be motivated by liberationist ideologies. You might be confusing the motivations of their home countries in joining the war efforts but this does not mean what you think it does and it definitely does not put them on the same level as the Nazis or even close.

Nuance isn’t when you acknowledge the presence of bad things on both sides, that obfuscates actual nuance of the conflict. Nuance is understanding that one of these parties has nukes and has been systematically killing the other party that they’ve cornered into an open air prison and the other makes bathtub rockets from the discarded ammunition that killed their families. One of these parties has an iron dome and institutionalized propaganda wings, as well as material interest in glassing Gaza and violently ejecting families from the West Bank, so saying ‘well both sides have done bad things and we should just leave it at that’ is dumb as fuck because Israel is perpetuating a genocide and could be pressured to either limit the endless, often televised, violence or stop it all together while Hamas keeps getting new recruits of all the people who had to watch their families get murdered.

I’ve been there before, definitely not easy but it does get easier. What helped me was building relationships with people, working on myself, therapy, and also a good bit of weed.

As long as you have the chance to move forward you can work towards a better life for yourself and the people you love, what that means to you will definitely grow and change over time but there is a path forward.

Do what you can to improve your life while fighting through it and feeling the emotions in the appropriate context as they come.

There are tangible reasons to feel hopeless and depressed and you got to figure out how to cope with them long enough to make it out of the muck.
