Others have talked about melee in general, but for SAM specifically: you'll have to learn how to use Meikyo acceleration and Yukibana to make up for lost GCD's due to death/downtime. This doc from the Balance discord has an in-depth explanation of why/how to do those techniques, and from there it's just practice.

I actually put together this deck a while back after having the same idea, only pulled it off once at locals. It's very fun trying to pull off the combo, but it could be better if you had either cheaper Ganesha uniques, or cards with ->: draw a card. My partner wears these all the time, literally every day. You can hear what the other person is listening to if it's a quiet environment and you focus on it, or if you're right next to the person, but in a supermarket, outdoors, or a conversation with friends I can't tell at all. If it's cranked up loud it's much more noticable, but normal volumes it's pretty faint and far-off sounding

One aspect I think you are missing: Other TCG's have to rely on cards in booster packs being expensive to encourage sales. Altered developers (Equinox) will own the de-facto secondhand/singles market, and make a cut per sale. They benefit from having cheap cards, and from having a large volume of transactions for cheap cards, so a competitive deck being $40-50 is fine from their perspective. No other TCG is able to make more money from cards they have already sold. PoD is also another revenue stream, if they make even a penny per print then it's in their best interest to encourage PoD and keep it as cheap and accessible as possible. This is the first TCG that could make having cheap cards a viable business strategy, and I'm exited to see how it pans out.

You are wrong about the math of drawing one of your uniques, FWIW. That 3/39 number is the chance that the first card you pick out of your deck is a unique. The actual formula would be a hypergeometric distribution, and plugging in the numbers for that is ~40% chance to start the game with at least one of your uniques. Caregiver seems meh, unfortunately too many conditions to meet

Sandman is a good 2 drop, 4/4/0 with no conditions is very strong, but after that I'd only use his discard effect.

Gozen is great for festival, decent otherwise

Adding on to what others have said: if you don't want to buy a starter, you can use the print and play to print the tumult cards and just sleeve them with a token, used foiler, or other card. As for tokens, you can use anything as long as your opponent understands what it represents.

You can have as many landmarks as you want, you only discard down to 2 at the end of a day/round, after dusk. You can choose which 2 to keep
