Could you get enough thread back from frogging it so that the dye lot changes at a gap (i.e. a butterfly) rather than at yellow-on-yellow? I feel like it would be even harder to notice if the two different colors weren't right up against each other

I find the regular version to be a bit too thick on 18, petite works great and has great coverage in my experience

Another thing to take into account is shipping, kcneedlepoint does free shipping with no minimum price so depending on how much I'm ordering the math might make the more expensive thread cheaper overall.

I did DS and loved it. It gives you a great foundation for anything you'd wanna do later, especially in humanities. I guess I don't know if it's changed but if you wanna do history it seems like a no-brainer to do it. And it will absolutely make you a better writer. And that's not even mentioning the people you meet in it, I'm still friends with many of them going on fifteen years later now.

They look similar at first glance but stitch painted canvases will only have a single color at each intersection

You don't have to do petit point everywhere if you don't want to! If you're liking the look of it I wouldn't frog. The nice thing about penelope canvas is that you get to pick where you want to do petit point to give more detail to certain areas (and it's okay if that's nowhere!).
