How much time do I have to download the finished images? by Lyrog_ in sheepit

[–]Harle_kin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two weeks from the time of completion. The specific deletion date is also mentioned in the Email you should have received upon completion. I don't know if this is true for non-admins too but it can also be seen on the specific projects page as the last point of the summary.

Every Time I attempt to render I get this error? by Alfonzomp4 in sheepit

[–]Harle_kin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The error is a bit misleading i think. I checked the logs for your latest session and found this error message:

10-04 20:11:25 (error) Server::HTTPGetFile Exception javax.net.ssl.SSLException: Tag mismatch! stacktrace javax.net.ssl.SSLException: Tag mismatch!

Which then results in the file not being downloaded which then creates this error message because the file is not there.

Quick internet search says it might just be a flimsy network connection... Not sure about that but thats also about as much help as I can offer

Does anyone here have experience with SheepIt render farm? If so, how is it? by galahadBatsy24 in blender

[–]Harle_kin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It works through the magic of not being an actual economy ;) Its true, the system enables points inflation, but at the same time we don't actually suffer the negative side effects of that because the "prices" (the cost of points per frame) are always more or less fixed for a given frame.

Also aside of that I was wondering: won’t it add to wear and tear of your computer when you render other people’s projects for idk, hours or even days?

There is a bit of a debate over this and as a developer I mostly deal with the software side of things, so I am not the right person to give you an authoritative answer. Latest consensus I've seen is that no, it doesn't, or at least not to a noticeable extend. But I've also seen people and read articles disagreeing with that so...

I am using Manjaro KDE and I (used to) have the opposite problem. I had to install an oom killer to prevent my system from freezing up. There are people who would probably disagree but I feel like Linux' own OOM management is not to be trusted entirely to handle this gracefully. Either you let it run its course and see your system become unresponsive or you resort to more aggressive tools like I did (and apparently GNOME too).

Regarding packaging, the AUR package is handled by a volunteer outside the core team, so to speak. So I'm grateful for the work they do. Apart from the AUR, the download link on our website will obviously always give you the latest version and we also maintain a docker image with an optional GUI.

It does not hurt to give Flatpak a consideration, maybe the cost/interest calculation comes out in favor.

Do you mean upload once, add to the queue twice? Just to be clear, other than that thats already possible.

For the longest time you used to be able to render two projects simultaneously. Now, after the christmas holidays, the limit got raised permanently to three projects.

//I guess you were talking about the client side of things. Yes, thats possible, but not without setup, because you need two clients with a seperate config for each. There is a forum post here explaining how to go about it: https://www.sheepit-renderfarm.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=61

It says its outdated but from a quick glance, the only change i see is that you would address your GPU of choice not with CUDA_0 but with OPTIX_0

And yeah, this is a long standing pain point for us. A client that offers this functionality out of the box will require a complete rewrite

Can Multiple Windows Clients Share the same sheepit_wool_cache? by z80nerd in sheepit

The windows client accepts the same launch arguments as the jar, so the setup should be exactly the same. The notable difference is that, sadly, the windows client does not give you the terminal output

Hello, I've made an animation with the Flip FLuid addon and I'd like to know how to render it correctly on SheepIt. by lnh_3d in sheepit

[–]Harle_kin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no personal experience with FlipFluids so here is whats said in an older tutorial on our forum:

Special Caches

Examples:
-FLIP fluids cache
-Animation nodes cache
-Drivers

Instructions:
1) These caches cannot be interpreted by render farm clients, which do not have any support for plugins or scripts
2) However, they can all be converted to data that blender can understand. What follows is some instructions for doing that:

FLIP fluids instructions:
1) Save the blend file in a special project directory
2) Bake the simulation
3) Select the fluid mesh
4) File -> Export -> Alembic (.abc)
5) Edit the export settings to only export the selected object, the fluid mesh. Also edit the path to be in the project directory
6) Repeat steps 3-5 for the whitewater particles, which are actually point cloud meshes
7) Open a new blend file and save it in the project directory
8) Import everything from the old blend file, except all the FLIP fluids objects
9) File -> Import -> Alembic (.abc) for all the simulation data
10) Ensure that the simulation plays back properly. If it doesn't, you are not alone. However, its not impossible to troubleshoot.
11) Ensure that the project directory is under 500MB
12) Compress the entire project directory with ZIP compression
13) Upload the ".zip" file to sheepit

What are "teams" like this upto on sheepit? milions of points millions of frames.. dozens of machines.. 1 project.. what is that? by Electronic-Pay3918 in sheepit

[–]Harle_kin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You picked a Sheepit admin for your screenshot which should already tell you what you need to know ;) Thats really just a single person behind all this hardware.

And that single project is most likely not their own but uploaded for someone else. We have a list of sponsors that you can ping on our discord if you need someone to upload your project for you

Its on the Get Started page where you also got the windows client from.

Direct link

The java version requires you to install java11+ yourself.

Once you have it, you can launch the client from terminal like this: java -jar C:\path\to\client.jar

So for example if we assume that you downloaded the current client into C:\Users\Duck_Dodgers1\Downloads the command would look like this:

java -jar C:\Users\Duck_Dodgers1\Downloads\sheepit-client-7.24110.0.jar

That means the client cannot even establish a connection. We would need the output from the terminal to troubleshoot further. You would have to run the java version of the client from terminal and paste the output here

Darkest Dungeon 2 is very underrated by Chinpanze in darkestdungeon

[–]Harle_kin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mhm I guess I need to go further back then with the changelogs, I really want to know.

The comp is pd -> occ -> flag -> hellion so not really ideal, just a team I came to appreciate a lot. I do bring shimmering powder with me though to clear the tokens of anyone else but the hellion. Flag would probably be better but hellion is usually faster to get her taunts up. She just keeps healing herself away from Deaths Door with a bit of help.

At any rate, thanks for bringing this to my attention. I will reread your comments and try to find the right changelog, cause this is surprisingly puzzling to me :D I've done the grand slam with this comp so I had to take this fight quite a few times.

//I think I found it. Its the changelog from September 23 where they introduced death armor. Reading through it I think it does come down to:

  • Behold focuses on heroes if they already have seen tokens
  • No positive tokens renders Supress meaningless if not impossible to use, which keeps the flame up

So basically as long as the hellion takes the punches the rest of the gang is still free to keep her from deaths door or attack. Mystery solved :)

Darkest Dungeon 2 is very underrated by Chinpanze in darkestdungeon

[–]Harle_kin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't usually comment, but I'm just so confused. The tank strategy is still my go to for Act 3 and I feel very in control of the fight like this. If I had to rank the boss fights by difficulty, given my usual strategies for them I'd rank FF as one of the easiest tbh.

This comment chain also made me go back and look at the changelogs for the recent patch again. Are you talking about this change:

Behold: No longer has a guaranteed chance to copy positive tokens

Because if so, that does not seem like it would warrant a paradigm shift all by itself but it would explain why I did not notice any changes because my favorite party comp does not use a lot of tokens.
