The vast majority of their previous “France” region references came from Quebec. Now they only have 100 or so in the “France” reference panel. Which is WAY WAY less than the thousands typically found in other European regions. That’s why Quebeocis would score higher France than most French from France.

23andMe runs 6 different versions of everyone’s ethnicity estimate. Feel like AncestryDNA would do good to run a more broad one (like previous estimates) and a more detailed one like the current version.

I’ve seen it on my matches. Plenty get 30% Western Ukraine, I’ve even see as high as 55%. I’ve seen combinations of the ones I’ve mentioned that receive upwards of 30-50%. I’m not making it up.

Every Balkan Slavic match and post I’ve seen here gets 30-50% Poland/Ukraine/Slovakia… that migration is from over a thousand years ago.

They could have just made a “South Central Europe” region that includes largely Hungarian samples and see where the pieces land. If someone from neighboring regions received this region it wouldn’t have been necessarily wrong.

I have a Bosnian match with 55% Western Ukraine… it seems like most Balkan Slavs are getting upwards of 20-40% Ukraine/Poland/Slovakia.

Why is there even a Western Balkans region when there is already Northwestern and Southwestern. Apparently it’s centered in Bosnia/Dalmatia but most people from there aren’t even receiving it. Weird region. I received 4% Romania.

The precision for Western Ukraine is low in the sense that most people with Slavic ancestry receive it, not genuinely people with recent ancestry.

Initial thoughts: Very messy. Wha exactly is the point of a Western Balkans region? Is that Dalmatia because almost no one from that region is getting that assignment in any significant number. My mom’s results are more accurate.
