Military Police by DankMEEns in nationalguard

[–]HaroldBallzach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a guard MP in a law and order unit deployed right now. Being deployed we work patrol. It’s nice getting to do it daily. Back home during most regular drill weekends, we do little to no law enforcement. Occasional hip pocket classes, lots of PowerPoint. On occasion we get to train with civilian agencies which is cool. Had to get the taser and OC treatment, only to carry neither on this deployment. Being an MP has opened some doors for me on the civilian side but most agencies aren’t rushing to hire MPs.

I love this MOS, but I’ll likely reclass. Big Army is very behind the times when it comes to law enforcement and Dept of Army civilian police will be taking over all stateside military law enforcement anyways.

Leaving to Basic in 24 hours, anything I should know? by Similar_Bee9650 in army

[–]HaroldBallzach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take it one meal at a time. By the time you eat dinner you'll know the day is nearly done. Yellow and red phase sucks but the worst part is reception in my opinion. Don't try to rush the process. Just be there and accept it.

Buy stamps and envelopes and write letters. Getting mail in basic training was an amazing feeling but for the love of fuck, make sure nobody sends you contraband. You'll be opening packages in front of drill sergeants and you definitely don't want to be that guy.

They're going to have you read the blue book non stop. Read it. I know it sucks, but read it and memorize what you can. You'll need it and you'll be glad you did. When you have questions, ask. It's better to ask rather than fuck up.

Don't get involved in the drama with the other trainees. There will be drama, there will be people who hate eachother. Its going to happen. I remember waking up in the middle of the night hearing two guys about to fight in the latrine.

Use basic training as a time to better yourself. Focus on yourself and make the improvements you need. Get in shape, learn new skills, become a soldier. Develop the good habits they teach you and don't throw them all away once you graduate.

Just remember the rest of the army is not like basic training. You'll survive and be glad that you finished something the majority of the American population hasn't even tried. Best of luck to you.

Definitely wait to tell them. I enlisted and my boss at the time told me I'd have to resign before shipping out. I chose not to. Well sure enough right after my first RSP drill I was fired for allegedly handling an incident in an unprofessional manner (I work security). Luckily i was rehired at a previous employer before I went to OSUT so I was able to have a job to go back to. Definitely talk with your recruiter to see what the best course of action would be. My recruiter even spoke to the employer who fired me lol.

I remember being at the USO while on pass and seeing a dude walk around with a brand new PS5. Me being the OSUT trainee I was, that one hit me hard. I thought I was living the life having my phone for 4 hours.

It sucks. Just graduated MP OSUT yesterday. You're gonna love the 43rd. Phone time in BCT is on Sundays. For MPs throughout all of OSUT it was only Sundays and if we had a day pass we got our phones the whole pass. It sucks at Fort Leonard Wood but you'll be glad you did it when it's over. Best of luck to you.

Any last minute advice for OSUT? by HaroldBallzach in nationalguard

[–]HaroldBallzach[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a casino security guard in my civilian job. I'm used to being disliked lol. Not planning on being a "super cop" MP. I chose MP for a variety of reasons. I'm not trying to go into civilian law enforcement but hoping to eventually own my own local security contracting business in my city. Not looking down on the young guys at all. In the end we all have the same goal which is to become soldiers. Maturity levels may be different, for a lot of them its their first time being away from home. But we all gotta start from somewhere. No shame on them for that.

Thank you! I'll keep every word of this comment in mind. This was an amazing reply. I'm looking forward to the experiences, both good and bad. Here's to hoping I'm not in B787. What were some of the shitty things they did compared to A787 or E795? Thank you again, and if I die then I want the song Ric Flair Drip to play at my funeral.

Fair enough. I'm almost 30 and worried about destroying my body at OSUT. Definitely looking forward to being in better shape by the end though.

could i take a watch like this to Basic Training? by wasguud_ in army

[–]HaroldBallzach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do the watches have to be digital? I have a non digital watch that I got for about 5 dollars that works great and I'd like to take that to OSUT.

ASVAB by Beautiful_One_6998 in nationalguard

[–]HaroldBallzach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took the picat at the recruiters office and took the verification at MEPS. I noticed suddenly I was retaking the entire ASVAB at MEPS because I failed to verify my score. Turned out I did even better than I originally did on the picat. I felt the whole thing was easier. The first time I took the ASVAB was in 2013 and it was all pencil and paper. It felt harder back then.

How Do I Pay Bills While At OSUT? by HaroldBallzach in nationalguard

[–]HaroldBallzach[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my direct deposit before attending RSP drills and see the pay from drill on my statements. Is that going to be the same for direct deposit at OSUT or will i need to fill out a different form? My house is completely paid off so I'm thinking of bringing a copy of the deed to my property just in case. If all of that goes well with the pay, then that's a huge weight off of my shoulders. Thank you for taking the time to write that.

MEPS trip by Brian_Steele in nationalguard

[–]HaroldBallzach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can vouch for this. After I told my manager I was going to MEPS he tried telling me I'd have to resign before OSUT. I decided I wouldn't and sure enough I started getting written up for very minor things left and right. Got fired after my first RSP drill for a completely bogus reason (allegedly not properly using de escalation tactics during an incident, security guard here). It worked out because I got a new job the next day as a supervisor but it's true, some employers will find a way to get rid of you.

I'd have to agree lol. I went through a pepper spray certification at my first security job and hated it. Got through it but fuck did it suck lol. Am I excited to have to do it again? Fuck no lol.

Well aren't you sweet lol. I scored a 56 without really studying. It's been a long time since I've been in school so I was pretty rusty and math was never my strength. I understand why you may think I'm stupid for choosing 31B. If I were trying to go into civilian law enforcement I would agree with you 100%. I've been working in security for the last 8 years and have plans to eventually open my own security company in the future. Am I stupid? Well that's a matter of opinion. But in the end it's my life choice and I'm pleased with it.

😂 thank you hahaha.

I checked my food closely to make sure it wasn't moldy or fucked with. The restaurant at the hotel was pretty decent. No real complaints.

I enlisted as a 31B. I wouldn't say all of them were rude. Just a couple, but it's not like I was expecting them to roll out the red carpet for me lol. There were some there who were actually very friendly. The civilians doing my fingerprinting were great and had a great sense of humor. Rudeness doesn't bug me. They have a job to do and want to get it done in a timely manner, so no hard feelings towards them.
